I wrote a little Python script that downloads domain blocks from a specified Mastodon server and saves them as a CSV file that can be imported to your own server. In case this is something you need.

And for those wondering, my own self-hosted server was only blocked by one instance, which I've never heard of. It hosts four registered accounts, and seems to block pretty much every other known server.

@thisismissem I believe it was a Misskey server, not sure if that makes a difference.

I'm not too familiar with how this platform handles domain blocks, or how to view them, but that particular server showed up as blocking all the domains I checked (the big ones analyzed in the article, plus mine), so I'm assuming they must be blocking a rather large list.

Yes, I'm aware of the pitfalls of looking for technological solutions to deeper social/societal problems, but maybe something like this would help?

Just throwing out a thought before I do some research on this, but I think robots.txt needs an update.

Ideally I'd like to define an "allow list" that tells web scrapers how my content can be used. Eg.:

- monetizable: false
- fediverse: true
- nonfediverse: false
- ai: false

Etc. And I'd like to apply this to my social media profile and any other web presence, not just my personal website.

It looks like Mastodon and goToSocial are the only fediverse platforms that publicly expose their servers' blocklist via an instance/domain_blocks endpoint.
