Oh, okay, I should've checked this, the post itself is "quiet public". Maybe the post privacy was changed after it was posted, that's how people on some servers were able to boost it?
Or do different servers handle "quiet public" posts differently?

@BeAware Okay, that is weird. Good catch!
This is one example: https://toot.cat/@idlestate/112781369431407211
194 boosts, none from mastodon.social.
@BeAware Yep, the account exists on the original server, the particular post I'm trying to boost is from yesterday.
Can someone who knows more about how Mastodon/the fediverse works help me understand something?
I've seen this happen with a few accounts now where I'd be trying to search for a post by its URL and it would not show up on some servers, but it would on others. I'd think these accounts might've been suspended, but the accounts themselves are found, and so are some of their older posts. I'd expect a suspended account not to show up at all, but maybe this is how it works?
@BeAware Thank you for the shout-out, very kind of you! Glad you're enjoying my work!
This was a tough one. Originally I wanted to show the full dataset (which you can still download), but...as you can imagine, there are some rather questionable instances in the fediverse, and going through 12,000+ servers and possibly traumatizing myself for life...not how I'd like to spend my time.
Still, I hope this is an entertaining read.
Okay, I updated the chart to display servers that have at least 50,000 registered accounts. I think it's a bit more interesting now. (Previous version only showed the top ~ 7 servers based on size.)
Here's some easy Friday reading: a look at custom emoji across the fediverse.

Very cool!
https://jointhefediverse.net got a full-page "ad" in the 2nd issue of On Computer Games Monthly, the "fediverse's only free unofficial gaming-slash-creative-writing magazine"!

@essjayjay @iaruffell @selzero Also worth noting --
"I disagree with some of the things they're saying"

I hope someone will get him on the record saying with which things he disagrees, and with which ones he does agree.
@J12t @laurenshof Good way to put this!
One thing I'd like to see more of in the fediverse are creative and gimmicky (in a good way!) instances, like https://oulipo.social, where you can't use the letter E in your posts.
Are there any more good examples?
@BeAware Yes, that threw me off for a moment. This is someone else's project, see https://github.com/franck-paul/socialMeta/commit/a40765513a2fb72482e8812a4000a25300157583
This person is following the format used in the original announcement, not the blog.
I do wonder if this makes a difference, maybe both formats work?
Ah, okay, so the "fediverse:creator" meta tag was introduced with the format "username@domain", but is now "@username@domain".

Good to know.
And while the LGBTQIA+ Pride Month ended yesterday, the work never ends. Solidarity forever ✊
Happy Disability Pride Month!

A great response to the hype around "AI" is more "people-powered, analogue tech".
I love how @jalcine records himself reading his blog posts, instead of using a robotic, impersonal text-to-speech translator.
For image descriptions, there are great resources on https://alttexthalloffame.org, plus the "Alt4Me" hashtag, if you need help.

Wait, Threads is now blocking mastodon.social?

EDIT: mastodon.social has been removed from the list after about 30 minutes. It will be interesting to hear what happened, and how this affected folks who follow each other.
@ignoreallpreviousinstructions Good advice for all of us.
