@BeAware Yes, the attached image does replace the preview, but it looks like Mastodon fetches the site details anyway, it just doesn't render the preview card. Very interesting, trying to find out more about this.

Both status objects have a "card" attribute, even though this status has media_attachments. There is no image attached to the card, but it does contain title and description, so I guess Mastodon is pinging the server after all?

@BeAware But there is no link preview, I attached an image myself from their Flickr.

@BeAware I just noticed that, but I added my own image, so Mastodon shouldn't be visiting it.

They just sent out a newsletter, so my guess is that other folks are visiting the site right now.

Did a little test, and realized that you can't change post privacy after you post it?

Also, I was able to search for a post I set to "quiet public" on the instance that was not seeing the other post I was curious about.

Maybe this particular server just works differently. Very interesting.
