@gamingonlinux I wonder if @Gargron hands out a silver Mastodon plaque for 100K followers. Golden plaque for 1M obviously ;-)

@dansup The choices are multiselect, but the little circles look like radio buttons. Maybe change them to squares so it's more obvious that you can check multiple.

@ludoloon She says moving to Linux is quite a topic among the retired people she knows, including informal mutual support groups, organized, amongst others, by the local public library. Who knew!

My 92 year old aunt: You do the Leenux thing, right? You need to come over sometime and install it for me, because f#ck all I ain't gonna update to Windows 11.

    Me: .... ?!#!?

I explain what the change-over entails and that I generally don't recommend it just because...

Aunt: No, f#ck that, f#ck capitalism, my laptop is still fine, so come over and set me up with that Leenux thing.

@bruces I will forever hear 2000 Light years from home playing in my head and think of my dad who played his records when he put me to bed as a kid so I could fall asleep listening to music and not be afraid in the dark.

@tk Yes. Start with the brake furthest from the lever (where the front brake cylinder is). In a dual disk setup you start with the side that is looped through from the other side.

You don't really need a special bleeder, just a bit of tube, an old bottle to collect it in. Having a one-way valve in that tube is handy. You can get those separately or in a little kit for 6 or 7 euro.

@gamingonlinux I feel somewhat conflicted about this. At what point is AI not just another tool a developer or creative person can add to their toolbox? Long, long ago I hand coded 8 bit sprite matrixes. Then came tools to draw your sprites which dumped the matrix for you. 3D is just a long road if ever more versatile tools that let you apply templates and logic to create and animate what you need.

@dalias Yep, trying to skip the Google stuff as much as possible. The script is a bit too barebones for my usecase :-) Paper backup certainly is an (additional) option worth considering.

Hey #infosec people, what is your solution for MFA that is recoverable and mostly disaster resistant?

Consider that many services allow you to only add 1 MFA token.

    Prefs/reqs
    - ideally no 3rd party service
    - can use private cloud storage though
    - don't store MFA with regular creds
    - can be (on) a device (app or physical)
    - MFA can survive device dying or disappearing
    - backupability is a pro
    - Linux compatible if applicable
    - can ideally be inherited and used after owner's (un)timely demise

@jwildeboer @mxk As long as they don't use AI to confabulate my Earl Grey, hot... which will, according to the Matrix, then taste like chicken because they never could get the taste of chicken right.

@dansup A simple password can and will be shared inappropriately. Should that access not be shared by the creator as a one on one transaction with a specific user?

I macgyvered the hinge of a free, old laptop. It was free because the hinge was ripped loose.

It was wet outside yesterday, so I made do with what I had at hand because I didn't feel like getting wet riding to the hardware store.

So now I have a nice 10th gen Intel laptop running EndeavourOS Linux.

@labellaragassa What is the legal grounds that desktops should be accessible next year?

Is that requirement applicable to individual volunteer programmers who share their code freely "as is"?

Or is this requirement only applicable to a company like Red Hat who get paid to deliver a distro based on open source code?

Apart from the moral imperative which I agree with, serious question... I worked on gov websites for 15 years and the a11y requirements for those was obvious.
