Come home to my heart (30k) by occultings is a canon divergent #WangXian #fanfic where our favorite oblivious boys suffer a body swap curse after the Sunshot campaign. Some shenanigans ensue (but no slapstick humor), the fic is funny, soft and lighthearted, with lots of tender, bittersweet pining that becomes mutual after an initially slightly obnoxious wwx has some revelations.

It diverges when wwx and the Wens get a warning from lqy about a trap, leading to wwx's Burial Mounds family expanding in surprising ways. Beautifully told, great characterization and dialogue, and the found family feels are strong. I was especially happy to see wq adopt new family & friends. This really touched me.

Written in a wonderful dry humor voice, with (pseudonymous) famous romantic poet and hilariously petty lwj who doesn't let anyone forget their crimes against wwx.

@lirazel I don't know what proportion of people feel an inherent sense of gender that's independent of their body, that would be an interesting topic for a survey. I can only say it isn't universal, as you and I clearly don't have it :)

As for the connection to gender role expectations, Idk, from my impression those two categories aren't clearly separate, for example when people question their gender bc they don't conform with cultural norms.

@lirazel I mean, there are multiple competing definitions of gender out there... You're probably talking about gender identity? I also can't relate to it, to me it's similar to people talking about their religion. Gender as a set of role expectations that is arbitrary and culturally defined, and used to oppress women especially, makes much more sense to me as a concept.

Lwj mistakes wwx for the escort he booked for a dinner, to distract him from his grief. A beautiful story about a life-changing encounter, with a lwj who can communicate a bit better than in canon. In addition to a lovely, hot #WangXian getting together story, the fic is also about healing and the feeling of safety.

The story is beautifully written, the two getting closer is so lovely. I adored their characterization and the happy domesticity of Wen Yuan's life with his family. A perfect fic.
