Oh, look. the Mozilla Foundation is asking for community feedback about what folk want them to focus on.
Anyone have opinions?

Historically, you just make some symbol that you can later reproduce, like an X.
A bit like a signature, really.
I am waiting for folk to adopt something like the Japanese stamp system for making unique marks.
I dunno. 20 people doesn't seem like a lot.
I wonder if there's an electric vehicle that might hold a few more than that?
oh, cool.
the midlife crisis movie can have it's own midlife crisis.
Huh.
Just got a note that #SunPower #solar has filed Chap 11 and will be selling portions of itself off to Solaria.
Kinda sucks, but again, I will note that better monitoring is available via a Raspberry Pi and a short network cable. https://github.com/jrconlin/sunpower_hass/tree/main/direct
(It does mean that repairs for those systems will be a bit... tricky, from now on.)

In case folk are curious, Politifact are running a live fact check (because CNN ain't doing it.)

TIL:
If you send out a meeting invite to a mail list, clicking on the '"Yes" or "No" I will attend' button tries to add the mail list (not you, the mail list recipient) to the meeting, which generally errors out.
If you plan on attending a meeting that's being held a month ago, and you are part of a mail list that got an invite. DO NOT ASSUME CLICKING "YES" MEANS THAT YOU GET A CALENDAR REMINDER! You gotta do that manually, it turns out.
Gmail + Gcalendar is very clever, that way.
You know, it's always fun to talk to junior or non-tech folk and explain to them that big companies are really a loose confederacy of smaller ones that all use the same badge to get into the cafeteria.
I think it's more nefarious than that. There are folks that have made Trumpism their identity, and this plays against the fear of being ex-communicated from the group.
People choose death over being ostracized, and the folk running this know that well. Being part of the larger group and showing allegiance is why so many look past logic and reason and continue to support the group.
I mean, congrats to Apple for creating quite the buzz-worthy ad.
People can't shut up about it.
(It's absolutely going to be on a few resumes, I guarantee.)
You think darkness is your ally? I was raised in the darkness...
I did.
It even had a history, so you could catch up on previous minutes.
Sadly, yes.
Not surprised, really. A significant portion of Big Tech research involves watching commercials from the competitor and screaming.
Just going to point out that these are going to be abused in all sorts of ways, just like AirTags are.
Tempted to see if there's a way to make a generic BT tag sensor I can build into a hammer. That way, if the sensor pings, I'll already have a hammer handy.

For folk that are not in the path of Totality (or under cloud cover, or are stuck inside, or...), friendly reminder that NASA is doing a live view party:
https://science.nasa.gov/eclipses/future-eclipses/eclipse-2024/live/
Last time, the stream was really good, and I expect it'll be better this time around.
(Plus, you won't burn your retinas out.)
Friendly PSA:
When a loved one passes leaving you the role of Executor of the estate, and you're going through who to notify about the recent death,
TELL THE BANK LAST!
They will freeze the account immediately upon hearing of the death and the only way to unfreeze it is to go through probate, which will take at least a month.
This is really important for things like online bill payments for utilities, mortgages, etc.
While going through the domains I previously had limited, I noticed something odd.
the same `yqqwe` account (which is the same name a https://mastodon.tinynews.org/@mastodon_admin_yqqwe/followers) has an account with the same data on a bunch of servers, including:
https://thewizardingworld.com/@yqqwe
https://tusk.schoollibraries.net/@yqqwe
https://surus.keepcoding.io/@yqqwe
https://staging.moth.social/@yqqwe
(probably a lot more... 🤔 )
Sigh. Getting a lot of Chinese spam from m.mxin.moe and cunnybora.top. Limiting them for the time being.
social.cutefunny.net also has a hit, but just reported to them.
Yes, do that. Danny has very good ideas.
We (used royally) also need to do more to make things more inclusive. The weekly status meeting is gone, we use a closed chat system, and hell, most of the company uses Jira instead of bugzilla. All of that excludes more than includes.
Having worked with browsers for a very long time, I'm just going to point out that making a modern browser is exceptionally difficult. There are LOTS of hidden costs and gotchas ranging from CVE protections, to back-end service supports, to even just getting anyone to work on it at all.
That's one of the big reasons a lot of folk just glommed onto WebKit. Someone else is footing that particular bill.
It's not impossible, but it ain't easy.
Everything looks small from a distance.
Got two Turing tables and some microcode.I work on back-end server-y type stuff at a place that keeps rockin' the free web. I like rust, python, and horrible puns (not necessarily in that order).I tend to be nice for selfish reasons (I don't like hanging out with jerks).#programming #rust #python#mentoring #DadJokes #fedi22 #searchable
