    “We see you haven’t voted yet. Your voting record is public,” a recent mailer to Texas Republicans says. “Your neighbors are watching and will know if you miss this critical runoff election. We will notify President Trump if you don’t vote. You can’t afford to have that on your record.”

    The thing about a "strong" "leader"? Eventually you'll be the one targeted when things get desperate enough. No matter how much you think you are the kind of person who wouldn't be.

      The whole mentality behind this speaks to some notion that Trump supporters have about being rewarded, or favored by participating in the movement?

      Maybe that's why some participate in rallies and advertise their allegiance?

      I think it's more nefarious than that. There are folks that have made Trumpism their identity, and this plays against the fear of being ex-communicated from the group.

      People choose death over being ostracized, and the folk running this know that well. Being part of the larger group and showing allegiance is why so many look past logic and reason and continue to support the group.

      Yes, their whole thing is obedience for the in-group, and punishment (or death) to the out-group.
      Donate to MAGA today, and you too might not be left behind for the rapture … er election.

      I think you hit it.

      @futurebird This is also voter intimidation and still currently illegal despite everything else that seems to have slipped lately.

      @nazokiyoubinbou @futurebird No disagreement, but if you'll forgive both my pessimism and my stating the obvious: There's illegal and then there's illegal.

      That is, it's only *really* illegal if (i) you get caught, (ii) someone in authority decides to do anything about it, and (iii) you can't lie, threaten, and/or bribe your way out of it.

      Kind of ike the old joke where the "$500 fine for littering" sign means "littering is fine if you have $500."

      @futurebird threats seem to be the primary way fascists and the GOP control people. It's part of their nature. I suspect threats are how GOP Congressional leaders have always gotten near-unanimous cooperation from their party on votes.

      @futurebird Leapords, faces, etc.

      It's obvious in hindsight. People like Trump come to power by exploiting people's fears, and use fear to maintain their power. Why *wouldn't* they do this?

      @futurebird This is called leopards eating your face. It was all cool as long as it was happening to all those folk over there that you didnt care for or didnt like. Now that its happening to *you*....

      This is what happens when you dont stand on consistent principles. Dems are also guilty of this in different ways.
