There's also the question of context. :D

Few departments in any bureaucracy will push for an idea that would make those departments obsolete, even if it would benefit the organisation as a whole. :D

This means that there will ALWAYS be idea's that cannot be discussed.

The early Proofs-Of-Concept for hydrocarbon manufacturing in the laboratory took place in the late 1890's/early-1900's, but electricity was more expensive to generate then. :D

The combination of manufacturable hydrocarbons and cheaper electricity from renewables works well. :D

Yes, it does require the roll-out of new infrastructures, but that is already in progress. :D

Though probably not quick enough to avoid the slow mega-deaths via poverty.

The technology is already here. We just need to implement it equitably. :D

Machining skills didn't become obsolete when CNC machines were created.

In order to get the best from a CNC machine, you need to understand the manual skills. :D

Learning new skills means that your kid will have a greater perspective, as they will see more of what is possible. :D

I'm in the UK as well, and all our infrastructure is being screwed over by short-term decisions.

When i use the phrase "Hydraulic Despotism", it's meant as describing a system of control that is used to shape the range of possible futures that can potentially exist.
