While yet another news crisis avalanched down the intertubes, I was thicknessing some cherry boards and appreciating how unique and different each one of them turned out to be; light, dark, burl, and curly shimmers.

I’m slowly working through my stack of cherry cutoffs and figured I’d just try and use up more scraps while I’m at it.

I’m trying to work in apple wood (the lid), walnut, and cherry. And a little pull out tray which I haven’t done before so I’m making lots of guesstimates on how to do it. Might turn out shitty but that’s part of the fun, right?

I had some Brusso side rail hinges laying around so I thought I'd give them a try for this box. It's my first time installing them so don't look too closely.

But I did like how the burl in the cherry turned out with a little bit of Odie's Oil.

A box in a box! Inner tray turned out ok. I think my favorite part is seeing the rabbets and grooves for all the pieces fold together in the final assembly.

I had to fiddle a bit with the final fit but that’s just how it goes with hand tools.

Next are the lid hinges…

It is hard for me to express in words the sadness I have for our little tree that was just trying to live its little tree life until a couple of partying raccoons came along.

The is (was) a yoshino cherry tree. 😭😭😭

Maybe also related, I find that being only money motivated generates a very empty experience (nothing wrong with people that are only money driven though) and there is so much more joy working on real problems with people that are equally inspired by working on those problems.

@inthehands I don't get it either. It's like people that are REALLY into Disney; they wear Mickey Mouse earrings and pay $100 to see a cartoon dog. I just don't get it.

@nova My sports addiction has not allowed me to leave my curated list there yet. ? Account is locked and read-only mode though.

But I spend 95% of my social media time on blissful #hachyderm now.
