     @inthehands I don't get it either. It's like people that are REALLY into Disney; they wear Mickey Mouse earrings and pay $100 to see a cartoon dog. I just don't get it.

     @seachanger Yes, I definitely think all that stuff is scratching some deep-seated human itch. And — upping the ante even further — the destructiveness of it, the way people delight in showering riches on public figures while destroying their interior lives and stripping them of their humanity, the way people get obsessed with reality TV whose central features are humiliation and cruelty…all of that is not quite as far from ritual human sacrifice as we’d like to think.

     @jamigibbs The cartoon dog…I can get, I guess? The Disney obsession with royalty, its elevation of royalty, the fundamental assumption that royalty is benign underlying so many Disney plots…that I do not get.

     i figure it's kind of like the zoo. as long as the monarchs are confined and can't get into the US, we love looking, poking things through the bars, and generally annoying them.

     @inthehands Most are not interested at all in the monarchy. That nonsensical obsession is rooted in the authoritarian culture of the South / The Confederacy (of ring worm infected idiot slavers). The British Empire wasn't exactly supportive of US independence, and neither were they, the supporters of the redcoats. Even now those fools want to vote for an authoritarian dictator, so sure, I'd not be surprised if they enjoyed the coronation (these are American Brexit types).
