    I'm tired of No-IP not prompting me to renew/confirm my DDNS hostname until after it's already expired and my monitoring system has been yelling at me every 30 minutes for multiple hours.

    I'm going to write my own DDNS update tool that hooks into my primary PowerDNS server so I can stop using these shitty services :wolf_arms_crossed:

      Due to a ridiculous number of automated account registrations, I've rate-limited signups to 1 per hour. This will restriction will likely remain in place for the foreseeable future.

    @claudius @duponin I have to disagree completely. I don't think Mattermost is at all suitable for something like a hackerspace because there are only two user types: completely privileged and completely unprivileged. In my personal opinion, the inability to do something as simple as appointing a couple moderators without giving them full access to administer the entire server kills Mattermost for medium-sized groups.

    Small groups where you can't pay and don't need mods, sure. Big groups that need mods and can afford to pay, sure. Medium groups where you need mods but can't afford to pay, :akko_shrug:

    Locking such a basic feature behind a paywall is a _really_ shitty move imo.

    And that was the situation with XMPP five or ten years ago, sure. Today, most modern, “mainstream” XMPP clients support everything you would expect a chat client to, except calls, but even that's becoming much more common.

    I like that #Bitwarden can store passkeys now; it gives me yet another layer of redundancy on top of recovery codes, TOTP, a mobile YubiKey that stays with me, and a stationary YubiKey that stays at home :neocat_comfy:

    I did kinda fuck myself with some sites and I'm having to go through an identity verification mess.

    I also realised a day or so ago that I need to consider the TOTP aspect compromised, requiring me to regenerate secret TOTP tokens everywhere. WebAuthn and FIDO2 are compromised too, so I need to remove these devices from all the sites I added them to.

    It's going to be a fuck ton of work :amolith_woozy:

    I've had an idea for a new blog post :akko_thonk:

    My approach to safely handling hardware MFA tokens so you don't royally fuck yourself when (not if!) you end up losing them. I'll also address handling the aftermath of losing them: considering those hardware tokens completely compromised, which requires removing them from every site you added them to.
