CEO of "WW," which is the new (2018) name for the former WeightWatchers, says that "it’s on us to do better so that we can help people feel positive and destigmatize this conversation around obesity."
@progo If someone believes that "lose weight" is not a good goal to have, then maybe that person should not be CEO of Weight Watchers. If the organization itself believes that, maybe it should shut itself down. Saying "Actually our *real* goal is social justice for fat people" seems like not a good way to go. There are other organizations for that.
Worse if they'd been a charity, of course. As a for-profit corp it's understandable they'd go where the profits seem to be.
@progo It seems clear that obesity isn't really just one thing, so what works and what's a problem for one person isn't going to be the same for someone else. Weight Watchers is one of those things - it works for some and not for others. (Much like Alcoholics Anonymous.) What I find really interesting here is the abandonment of the original mission, and glossing of that as some sort of *return* to the true mission which was previously misunderstood. That's part of a larger pattern.
I found this spacecraft in the asteroid belt - quite a while ago, via telescope, but I only just got around to going out there, salvaging it, and flying it back to Nauvis orbit. There were enough spare parts inside to replace the damaged bits, which is good because at this point I still don't yet have the technology to actually build one from scratch.
@Moon@lain Better in what sense? One can do more with Javascript, but I am not sure that people who learn Javascript first end up better programmers than people who learn BASIC first. Javascript programmers all seem to be "copy and modify an existing example" programmers, the kind who are well simulated by ChatGPT. Programming in BASIC isn't like that; every program has to be really new.
But of course by BASIC I mean real BASIC, with line numbers.
@Moon I've been mostly pleased with LibreWolf. The biggest complaint I've heard about it is that it doesn't auto-update, but that's exactly the feature I most desired.
