I briefly got caught up in such debates during the worst of the pandemic, and it was fruitless and a total waste of my time.

Every time the person asked for something to prove they were wrong, I'd show them. And they'd never admit it and go onto another talking point, and I'd disprove that. Rinse and repeat a number of times before I finally called them out on it and just walked away from the conversation.

Save your time and energy for something positive instead.

@lauren I readily admit, for every Tesla I see on the road I wonder if the driver is a Musk fan and assume it's at least likely.
If I'd had a Tesla before Musk became Musk, I would 100% have returned it when his true self became evident. I cannot and will not support (or be thought to support) that kind of abhorrence. If that means going through the hassle of selling (back) "his" car, so be it.
Plenty of other EVs out there to choose among, including sexy ones, with equivalent or better range.

@BethanyBlack We were told recently that we could easily get double, maybe even triple, what we paid for it if we were to sell ours again, rough appearance notwithstanding.

Well… I cleaned it up and took bunch of nice shots and it was for sale on one of the most popular used car sites, and over MONTHS and a number of price reductions there were only half a dozen expressions of interest but only one serious one, and by that point I’d gotten this other work that the car was handy to get to, so… 🤷♂️

@BethanyBlack I’m in a similar situation: We paid $1000 for what was intended to be a winter beater that we ended up finding was more convenient to keep, and it’s helping me get to a second job that more than earns me its original value per month, soooo… 🤷♂️

@historleans @aral … makes one wonder how much it would’ve cost them to just pay their workers a decent wage. 🤔

@tk @feld I admit to being confused, though — when it comes to Bluesky instead of Twitter or Threads “instead of” Facebook or Telegram instead of Instagram — why the masses immediately replace one bad method of connection after another instead of seemingly looking around *at all* for equally efficient but actually ethical options.

Looking like I’m going to have to bail on my current web hosting service because they renew at too steep a price than I can afford for a little blog site and two domains.

I keep seeing HostGator, inmotion and DreamHost show up as well-rated sites with really affordable (introduction) packages.

Does anyone have any experience with any of those services? Good/bad/ugly?

Also, my error: it was changed to “Cigarette Smoking Man”, which is even more of a mouthful.

Cancer Man is far more ominous. Much better name, really. 🤷♂️

Why was that?
Was there actually enough pushback from cigarette manufacturers even then to warrant backing down on the name? 🤔

Why not just get together with other companies and work on an agreed-upon plug design they all use? Better still: Don’t make it proprietary. Let any manufacturer who wants to use that same plug system use it.

Behold: VW, Porsche, Audi, BMW, Volvo and let’s say Ford all agree upon one plug design they’ll all use and that any other manufacturer can use for free. You’re telling me that won’t have a good chance of becoming the standard?
