Gatekeeping intrusive thoughts (eg "it's only an intrusive thought if it's repugnant to you", "it's only an intrusive thought if it's something you would never do", etc) only leads to further stigmatisation of intrusive thoughts, which, in turn, makes unwanted intrusive thoughts harder to cope with.

I keep seeing people getting mad about people talking about intrusive thoughts that are funny or otherwise just not terribly serious, because they think it minimises the difficulty of disorders like OCD. But having an intrusive or even unwanted intrusive thought is not an experience limited to people with OCD or other mental illness.

Almost everybody has intrusive thoughts, although they're not a problem for most people. Telling people intrusive thoughts are just one thing doesn't help anyone.

Ok, so step 1: start selling carbon monoxide detectors, but say they're ghost detectors.

Step 2: figure out who you're supposed to call when your carbon monoxide detector goes off.

Step 3: Open a business that does that, but call it Ghostbusters.
