Gatekeeping intrusive thoughts (eg "it's only an intrusive thought if it's repugnant to you", "it's only an intrusive thought if it's something you would never do", etc) only leads to further stigmatisation of intrusive thoughts, which, in turn, makes unwanted intrusive thoughts harder to cope with.

Every psych I've ever seen, as soon as i start talking about my intrusive thoughts, many of which are violent, they want to put me on that shit and I'm not taking it. The last one wanted me to take something that could have given me involuntary movements even after I stopped taking it. Fuck that and fuck you.

But having an intrusive or even unwanted intrusive thought is not an experience limited to people with OCD or other mental illness.
