Ended up next to the translator for a meetup between two companies at the last day's social evening meal once. He said he usually asked to have jokes presubmitted so he could actually provide a funny translation.

It's definitely a universal thing. And I definitely experienced it and heard it talked about growing up in Sweden.

Although if you don't experience it yourself you might not have picked up the cues of others experiencing it. And filtered it when seen in media.

Pee shivers too, although that probably falls under "probably not discussed in polite company" for 1980s Sweden.

There was a funny once where in some internal email thread at ARM Cambridge, a bunch of furriners started debating some aspect of English grammar or whatever.

Someone (offline) asked the opinion of a native. They responded along the lines of "these people learned English by studing it, I'm not getting involved".
