@SpaceLifeForm@tomjennings I'm aware of that and have been for many years. My purpose is musing on what I might find to be an improvement on "scribble it on anything at hand because it doesn't matter and I won't look at it 2 weeks later"
@Lucaas@amsomniac Not even sure I'd call it the rat race in the traditional sense. Yeah, I have a career. I also am a head referee and trainer for the roller derby league, I have a little business as a DJ, I study tea ceremony, and I help take care of a disabled family member. I have two partners with a lot to do in this life, too, and it just takes a lot of coordination and flexibility.
@SpaceLifeForm@tomjennings I guess the thing is that it feels like I must be missing a step or something, because I could just keep using a basic 4"x6" yellow notepad, given that the only purpose is to write something down and then never again look at it.
@Lucaas@amsomniac I guess that's kinda the rub for me-- currently, my only durable use case is rapid note taking in largely professional conversations, as a memory aid. Everything else would either be a redundancy to something that must be done through an online tool (to share with partners/coworkers/etc) or that doesn't fit with my current "the battle plan is the first casualty of war" lifestyle. I have to be so flexible that my morning plan is irrelevant within 2 hours every day.
I've had so much fun with analog photography this year, and I'm a natural note scribbler, so I'd really love to get back to a paper notebook again.
But I tried Bullet Journal before, and found it to really not be effective to me. It really just became rewriting the same backlog of TODO items Also, I basically never revisit my notes; taking them is really about the way they commit things to memory.
So, yeah, I want to be an analog paper journal sort, but I don't know how to make it work.
@munin Absolutely. It's amazing how much more empathetic and curious of a person you'll come off as if you remove words like "just", "merely", "simply", etc from any suggestion about a course of action.
@sophiesometimes@faithisleaping@RickiTarr I'll undersign that if I line up my challenges with focus and attention, both in childhood and adulthood, with ADHD, it does look like the "inattentive" type commonly associated with girls. I'm a femme enby not on HRT, so I can't speak about flipping my dominant hormones. I *can* say, though, that my parents treated my issues as a organization/discipline problem because I didn't have the aggression or hyperactivity associated with boys.
@Natasha_Jay You can spot the beginning of transition in my photo roll because of the explosion of selfies. That has tapered off considerably, since they weren't just for self-celebration but also self-exploration and I no longer take 10 selfies of every outfit. But there's still a difference. I definitely used to cringe from photos and hate most of them.
And, really, not *that* much has changed, other than losing the facial scruff and some aesthetic tweaks.
@ChrisMayLA6 Didn't he start his career as a civil rights attorney? Seems an awfully basic thing for someone of his background to forget. Though it's certainly something a cheap opportunist would think up.
Do you have a particularly cool #Owncast project that you think deserves some attention? Perhaps you know someone doing cool stuff with it? I'm still in the hunt for a Featured Streamer for the next edition of the Owncast newsletter!
@stancarey But sometimes different usages reach different people. For example, I have always used the phrase "go to the woodshed" to mean "go think on this / fiddle with this alone / study on this more". But there's also the set phrase of "take you out to the woodshed and beat you", and a coworker thought when I said I would "go back to the woodshed", that I was physically punishing myself. 2/2
@stancarey I have not heard that usage before, but I do know younger people use "out of pocket" to mean "out of control" rather than "unreachable" or "lost money", so it's possible.
