@ajroach42 Outside of baseball and PWHL hockey, I follow cricket and my whole family follows Formula E racing. Formula E was our gateway drug to motor sport. The races are fairly short and the fact that the drivers have to regenerate energy through strategic driving makes it a chess match.

In addition to that, we love to make a sleepover out of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. It's fun because it's just all kinda...there... while you go about things, but a broken bolt can end a car at any time.

As for the themes, I mention it more because young people are now very culturally aware of ecology and learn at least something about jihad in the average social studies class.

But, it is a *great* book to use as a discussion starter with a precocious kid. "So, what has happened in Dune lately?" will likely spark a lot of conversations. It's also a great one to read together "family book club" style.

@PlutoCentipede @vantablack when I was getting my tattoo done, the artist was joking with his mates in the studio that the Deathly Hallows logo is "the gateway drug of tattoos". If that's true, I suspect there are a *lot* of regretted ones for all sorts of reasons.

@DecaturNature IMHO, one of the most important things an older person can share with a younger person regarding Dune is the simple truth that, when it was written, ecology was a fringe concept and nobody in America had heard the word "jihad" yet.

@jupitersigh The Foxfire books are a vast store of collected wisdom on homesteading from a culture of people who lived without electricity well into the late-mid 20th century. I have the complete set and live near the community where they were collected and edited.

@lennby In my case, the compromise is largely with myself. I've looked at the body I have and what HRT I can offer and can't conclude it's a sufficient "return on investment" to commit to, though many parts of me want to try anyway.

@lennby I think I originally asked for more info because some of the initial wording read to me like a "I must have some amount of boy to be non-binary" thing, a phase I went through myself for a while before accepting I'm basically a demigirl and my decision not to pursue HRT is effectively a compromise I'm choosing to accept.

I'm surrounded by transmascs in my social circle. I celebrate their transition as they celebrate mine, but I suspect we must mystify each other at some level.

Listening to a lot of Southern Death Cult and Theatre Of Hate tonight. It's something I go back to again and again on late nights when I'm nostalgic. It's hard to explain...I can't say I'd describe it as "good" music. But it's so fucking compelling to me.

I confess in my family, the Isle Of Man TT is a bit of a "guilty watch". We enjoy auto racing, but of course part of the mystique of the TT is that it's extremely dangerous and only the most obsessed racers take it on. But they're obsessed and we want to bear witness to their madness.
