@ana whenever I hear this (about once a year on the Fediverse), I'm reminded that I never got taught the tragedy of the commons in its original form, because in my life it's always been a parable about how a commons needs its participants to get engage in some form of social dynamic with one another outside of their private use of resources (e.g. a village council, networks of trust / obligation) as a means to check bad actors from damaging the commons for others.

@prinlu Also, the study they're reporting on that mentions a drop in trans/non-binary identification, is known to have serious statistical flaws in it and, when more accepted techniques are used, the same data shows a small uptick in trans identification.

@prinlu The Blessed Madonna has had their own controversies, but I've remained a fan and played their tracks many times. And I'm glad to see them noted in such a loud clap-back.

Whenever I meet someone who's a #prowrestling fan and we get into talking, one of the things I will intentionally do is mention that I like wrestling best when the performers and fans are all clear that we're a bunch of messed up people being messed up together.

If the other person laughs, then I know they get it. Because it's true...everyone in wrestling knows we're enjoying a game of "make believe ultraviolence", and you gotta be a weirdo to spend your time that way.

My desire for "devices that work" finally overruled my "don't replace existing equipment" sensibility, and I went in for a @ploopy Adept trackball. I'm still adjusting to trackball use...learning to click without flicking the trackball and producing a click-and-drag...but it's otherwise superior to my old Razer mouse setup in the ways I needed. Definitely will consider them for future peripherals.

@aronia I remember back in grad school, I was the senior teaching assistant for the undergrad operating systems class. I was preparing a new homework assignment for the class, working on the shared UNIX environment (we're talking xterms on a big server), and I rather absent-mindedly wrote a fork bomb. Didn't realize it until I saw the terminal next to me stopped responding.

I calmly gathered my bag and walked away whistling innocently. Like a cartoon character. Chaos descended behind me.

@stylus @ana Yeah, especially dangerous among youth where one of them identifying as "cis" will suddenly trigger rapid onset "cis" identity in the others. Parents should really pay attention to their kids' social groups and the impact it has on them.

Kids are under so much pressure these days. Growing up so fast and getting all these messages to do "cis" and "hetero" things from social media.

@rooster There's a reason why the X-Men hit so hard with queer people. Honestly, you can probably test teenagers for future queer identity by just handing them a copy of like... early New Mutants or Firestar #1 and asking them if they identified with it.
