@JoscelynTransient Signal isn't well suited to certain uses. For example, on one of my Discord alt accounts, I hang out on a server for a link that tends to attract people who'll eventually wrestle with being transfeminine, and I anchor a channel so they have one calm and mature trans voice when they have questions or egg cracks. Can't do that on Signal

@mattblaze Yeah, this is always so dismaying to me to see. My house is in a pocket of low cell reception despite being all of 10 miles from Atlanta city center. I've woken up to no power and thus no Internet and been grateful I could pull out my all-purposes radio and get NOAA and some local news while I light a fire and cook some coffee on an alcohol stove.

@N9DRB @M0YNG I suspect that either nobody has noticed or that it's in the same frequncy range as other ambient noises so filtering it off would also sound super weird. I'm betting there are a lot of conversations being had about what to do in the future, though.

Skiers and snowboarders are probably used to them by now. I'd reckon they use them for their social media and training pretty much all the time.

@M0YNG they're more common in the ski/board events now, and they have their downsides for sure...not the least of those being the noise.

@float13 Yeah, that's a good point. I wonder if they're using a dish mic to get the ambient sounds

@float13 Glad I'm not the only one noticing it. I do kinda wonder if it's in a similar range of frequencies to the hiss of skis on snow so they can't EQ it out without making other things sound weird too.

@jcrabapple it's been a must watch for me for about 20 years now. It's never looked better. The PWHL-style hitting rules have really been a difference maker.

@dixon I probably have foam that's too strong. My steam wand is modern, but it's on a La Pavoni lever-activated machine, so there's a really good chance that it's not using the latest concepts in steam wand design.

@dixon For the life of me, I can't get the pour started right. The milk foam just floats on top and never catches the espresso crema, so I just get a single clean white layer on top.

@NinjaNia Well, Egon did start with one baby, a bunny named Ray. We quickly discovered anything animal shaped, soft, and of the right size is a possible candidate as a baby. For example, we have a PG Tips branded knit gorilla which he pulled down off a desk and now that's his 4th baby, Louis.

@NinjaNia Our cat, Egon, actually has a collection of 4 small stuffed animals that we call his "babies". He picks them up, typically in the evening and early nighttime, and just after bed time, and carries them around while making crying noises into them. The places he leaves them map to his daily routine...in the evening he might go to nap in a different part of the house and bring a baby with him; he might leave one in bed at bedtime.

Moments like this are why I tell people pro #wrestling absolutely can matter. This was on international TV last night. The crowd started it, and the company leaned into it.

@zoey if you have some runway, definitely start putting some feelers out, but also seriously spend some time just being you. It's really hard to understand just how pervasively a tech career infests your personality until you're not even thinking your own thoughts. And the rest and the learning to be with yourself and not your role will ultimately make you more capable at your next big thing.

@vees I'm really sorry. Work has tried many times to take away my Linux workstation and force me to reduce my productivity by using the standard issue Mac but I have thus far ducked it.

In the Muromachi period the custom of 'mamemaki' (豆撒き) first appeared. Unwanted spirits, thought to bring with them bad luck and sickness, were chased out of the home by the scattering of roasted soybeans.

The tradition is still popular to this day!
