mhd (mhd@tilde.zone)'s status on Monday, 25-Sep-2023 19:51:09 JST mhd @Colman @goatsarah Actually, I think we're still not on the same page here on what target demographic I pictured here. I was thinking of way less technical and monetary investment here to make this something viable and interesting. On the level of bluetooth-cassette adapters, not developing film yourself…
But yes, if the sensors here aren't available, this obviously wouldn't work. But who knows, we've got all kinds of electronic products these days, so I thought maybe someone comes up with "Hey, if we just repurpose this aliexpress sensor used to retrofit CCTV cameras, we've got a stew going"…
Obviously, I've got literally no idea about the availability of sensors in 2023 ;) -

mhd (mhd@tilde.zone)'s status on Monday, 25-Sep-2023 17:38:55 JST mhd @goatsarah I think if we're talking about replacing DSLR-type cameras and film, we're talking totally different areas of the market here. Fake 35 targeted four-figure camera setups, not the Kodak clone you got from your parents for your school trips.
Something like this would only work if it's really cheap and thus enables you to use the instamatics you already have or get cheap in thrift stores. So more the area of refurbished walkmen and cassettes than high-end turntables and expensive vinyl special editions.
I guess the battery and chip side of things would be easy enough, but you'd basically need an already existing commodity sensor that could be repurposed here.

mhd (mhd@tilde.zone)'s status on Monday, 25-Sep-2023 17:24:32 JST mhd Hmm, wouldn't it be possible to have a 110 film cartridge that's actually a digital sensor? Use old holiday cameras, then download it from the fake cartridge via USB?
