@goatsarah I think if we're talking about replacing DSLR-type cameras and film, we're talking totally different areas of the market here. Fake 35 targeted four-figure camera setups, not the Kodak clone you got from your parents for your school trips.

Something like this would only work if it's really cheap and thus enables you to use the instamatics you already have or get cheap in thrift stores. So more the area of refurbished walkmen and cassettes than high-end turntables and expensive vinyl special editions.

I guess the battery and chip side of things would be easy enough, but you'd basically need an already existing commodity sensor that could be repurposed here.
