@ianhillmedia@dansinker Sigh. In a federated universe, people share the load. I am using money from my center at CUNY to support the out-of-pocket costs of @adamdavidson starting journa.host because the fediverse is run by such volunteers. We in news media will benefit from this federated ecosystem--no longer subject to the whims of insane moguls--and should pay back. Everything isn't about us and our pathetic bottom lines.
Watching this confab, I'm struck that there is zero (0) mention of anything to do with policy or the organization of government. Just astonishing. It's as if "Don't Look Up" and "Hunger Games" got together and spawned a reality child. https://youtu.be/xgkQUgFuWCg
I removed the cafe curtain from the kitchen window today. I'll be replacing it with another that provides a little more insulation, but man, we're into the cold season here and I feel my late wife's desire to get some covering in place early on. Stark.
The Opinion section is trash, but being too dumb to realize you published an anti-semitic crossword puzzle (again) kinda put me over the top. Nice work, NY Times. I will spend my subscription money elsewhere.
@I@SteveBellovin In the end it's all about space exploration, of course. With such accounting practices, the Light of Consciousness will flock here uninvited just to get in on the hustle.
@daveleeFT He's hinted at rerunning it with voting by paid subscribers only. But either way, yeah, no change to the trajectory. It's just another PR stunt.
@theruss@darnell Shrewd move, signalling to advertisers that the most engaged users will buy anything that is put in front of them. Placebo vendors and crypto influencers will be lining up around the block.
@annmlipton Voting Blue is such a cool idea! But choice is important. Can we have Non-Voting Blue? And Convertible Blue NFTs that I can trade with my friends—a perfect Christmas gift! Plus a lot of users would prepay for Full Self-Tweeting.
@SteveBellovin I lack a billionaire mindset, but it looks to me like he'd decided to walk away from it (whether out of frustration or boredom), blaming the enterprise as a whole for the inevitable hard landing next year: ~"I've done what I could to slay the mighty Wokeness Dragon, these are now your jobs to save."~ His plane is routing to Texas, seems he's off to play with his other toys.
@sj5 (Sorry, that was a lame joke! Up until Firefox version 62 or something, the user interface code in Firefox was written in a custom-made language called "XUL," which its developers pronounced "zuul" because movie.)
With this move at Twitter, news organizations should by rights completely end the practice of using "tweets" as source material. It's been purposefully reconfigured as a mob-hysteria cesspool. There is no longer any excuse for elevating its content as some sort of open-air "public forum "
