Is there any demand for a #vegan Matrix server? A few activist friends and I are thinking about moving our 3k member discord ‘server’ over.

I suppose it's worth a look, though automod and api compatibility are a big want from me.

As an admin, Lemmy just doesn't do it for me.

I moderate multiple large ethics subreddits (100k+) on Reddit that I don't feel comfortable migrating over.

Would there be interest in a decentralized Reddit alternative written in Rails that re-implements their automod and api?

We'd fork praw and resurrect an old 3rd party app to use. It'd federate with Lemmy.

I'm thinking about calling it "Sprawl".

Tbh I'm not sure if it's too much for me to chew. I have ADHD so 🤷.

ADHD win: I finally got around to updating the data for https://fedipact.veganism.social after putting it off for like 3 months.

Data was collected from roughly 43,000 instances, about half were offline and discarded.

So, I rewrote much of the communication between the database and your mastodon viewers (website/app), specifically for viewing accounts and status updates.

(Mastodon uses an abandoned serialization dependency and nobody noticed???)

A deployment is being made now that will speed everything wayyyyyyyy up.

I will be reporting benchmarks soon to the Mastodon org.

Blocked takes priority over fedipact as blocked is something verifiable whereas fedipact is like a promise to do the verifiable thing.

Today though by popular demand, I’ll make a status-type that shows blocked & fedipact.

@aral I've been astonishingly pleased since leaving mac two weeks ago for a self-built computer running arch linux.

Having control over the software you're running eliminates problems like this where a corporation forces to use your computer that you paid for in their chosen way.

Veganism Social is experimenting with replacing our "Local" timeline with a "Vegan Timeline".

Originally, the "Vegan Timeline" was just people on our server, but now it also includes people who have #vegan in their bio.

I'll be monitoring this feature and make adjustments as needed.
