I had been running Brave browser for a while (due to its speed, stability, and blocking options), but the upgrade to 1.83 made the browser completely unusable. Tabs kept changing without input, maps and pages kept scrolling without input, text could not be selected, etc.

Today I swapped it out for Vivaldi and the experience has all the things I liked about Brave without any of the problems and it's a little bit faster. Quite impressed so far with the Vivaldi experience.

Okay, I think that's all the Ubuntu news I'll be posting for a while. Back to our usual routine for the next six months.

Fedora's server infrastructure is experiencing a denial of service attack. It may be difficult to perform updates or visit the project's website for a time: https://distrowatch.com/dwres.php?resource=showheadline&story=20039

A Btrfs corruption bug appears to affect recent versions of the Linux kernel, particularly on Fedora (where Btrfs is the default filesystem): https://distrowatch.com/dwres.php?resource=showheadline&story=20037

@fesshole The part I find weird in this one is the GF thinks he is cheating, but continues to engage sexual. However, he thinks if he tells her he's been taking notes she would stop. Those would be some incredibly weird priorities.

A good analogy for dealing with encroaching technologies.

StormOS has been added to our database. It is an Arch-based distribution aimed at making Linux easier for beginners: https://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=stormos

@fesshole This is one of the plot points to the movie Knocked Up.

We now have over 1,000 open source operating systems in our database. Which means we've been adding an average of about one Linux distribution per week for 20 years.

@whitequark How else are they supposed to get good feedback and improve the quality of the victim's experience? (sarcasm)

@freequaybuoy @Daojoan This was my thought too. Defence spending now to face potential threats later is considered fine. But education now to benefit the next generation is seen as a waste. It's as though the politicians are less worried about _government_ costs vs reward and more interested in what will benefit _them_ in donations and lobbying.

@GossiTheDog Windows allows non-admin users to create any folder they want in C: \ ?
That seems like a pretty big security issue on its own.

@mcc Yesterday I wrote all of my Python code with semi-colons at the end of each line because I'd just finished working on a C project. The Python interpreter took it as an insult and refuses to speak with me today.
