@icedquinn not sure if it's 100% XHTML which is why it's labelled transitional, but I'm fairly certain I've followed all the rules. Except some pages use <u></u> and <s></s> which is not allowed in "strict" I think. :p

@icedquinn yes, i know it is, i was hosting this on github pages for years though and also get annoyed setting up my server properly. Originally this was just to get internet exploder to cooperate (I still occasionally test my pages in IE 5)

1. My site's HTML files contain "http-equiv" entries in their headers for ancient browsers as well as new ones. Near the bottom, you can also see an HTML span element named "rightbox" that is needed for dillo, according to an HTML comment next to it.

My bus mouse-to-PS/2 (or RS-232) converter works now, after adding a 74LS04 chip to invert the mouse button signals. Finally made use of a perfboard I've had sitting around since like 2012 because it doesn't have any copper pads on it and it's kind of a pain to solder stuff onto it.

1. A ridiculously cluttered desk. In front of my keyboard are a perforated board (without copper pads). On either side of the keyboard are a soldering iron and a multimeter and a disemboweled mouse. Just in frame, there's also an intact 1980's era boxy Logitech "HiREZ" mouse (from around 1987). The logitech mouse is plugged into a D-subminiature 9 pin connector that I've tied onto the perfboard with loops of wire. The other features of the perfboard are a socketed 74LS04 logical inverter and a PCB taken from the mouse. The mouse PCB is tied down to the perfboard, and has had its phototransistors and mouse click buttons removed. In its place, the bus mouse button wires go into the inverter IC (74LS04) and then out to the correct holes where the old mouse's buttons once were. The encoders that I removed (phototransistors) now are being fed the quadrature signals from the bus mouse directly. All of this gets fed into an "HMC" HM8450AP chip, which in turn speaks PS/2 mouse protocol with a computer. It can also do RS-232 serial, so it's even more versatile. A cable comes off the board and ends in a PS/2 connector which is plugged into an active PS/2-to-USB converter that is hooked into a USB port on the side of my computer monitor. On the computer screen, I've used the Logitech "HiREZ" mouse to write: 'Drawn with my new bus mouse to PS/2 and serial (RS-232) converter! - Logitech "HiREZ" 320 DPI - model no. P7-3F-320DPI.'

Close-up of the bus mouse to PS/2 / RS-232 converter I just got working. I can use it to use PC-98 mouses with my modern PC's, as well as any other quadrature-output mouse with the right pinout.
Will cut some wires and stuff but it's basically done now.

"Obsolete" is a word someone usually uses to dismiss something that still works without having to think of technical reasons why they should not use it. It is usually a marketing tactic to convince people they need to constantly re-invent stuff that already exists and works to make people spend more money. Obsolescence is a state of mind.

And in a much more real sense, also because IBM's website still hosts some downloads over FTP only (gives you FTP links).

A very crowded desk containing a 4:3 wacom graphics tablet, two other LCD's, one of which is showing a windows 98 desktop running on a gateway desktop PC and the other two showing FVWM on my newest computer. There's two more old beige box computers on my desk; an Epson PC-486GR and an NEC PC-9821Ce2. I'm using old keyboards from the late 80's and early 90's, and three button mouses. There's also a Roland MT-32 synthesizer and a Sound Canvas SC-55K just barely visible. And a sega mega drive and various cartridges.
