@mischievoustomato @feld @jiub yes, i do see this phenomenon too. Often it is used to stigmatize minorities who have been swept under the rug by our current policies and thus have nothing to lose.
There is something to be said for "finding things people have in common to bring them closer," for sure. But to be honest I used to be one of those people who distanced myself from the most radical/outspoken people. And eventually i started wondering what would lead someone to feel that way. And finding the answers to that radicalized me in turn. -

@mischievoustomato @feld @jiub yeah, but if you look at overall turnout i think that can be attributed to dems picking the worst person possible for their ticket. someone who supports genocides and promises more of the same stagnation that the last four years yielded (at least for people like me).
I did vote for harris but i 100% do not blame people who stayed home. i had enough of a struggle even getting out of bed to go vote due to my own depression over the state of US politics -

even if rust IS faster i'd rather have code i can read and somewhat understand, thanks.
yes, i find C to be on average more legible and follow-able than whatever the hell rust is doing. Especially since I don't use one of those ultra-heavy and cumbersome IDE's y'all seem to like. -

@mirabilos oh definitely. It's been interesting to see that more and more as I get less "unknowing" myself.
At least it's not Ubuntu forums/Ubuntu answers. Talk about the blind leading the blind. -

steam is like internet explorer or even edge, in that its only purpose is to download software that is actually wanted (like a better web browser). It deserves just as much respect as internet explorer (none).

@navi "steam" didn't fund proton development. "valve" did. -

@navi valve could well have made an online store that did not act as a fucking launcher and in-game payment processor. There is a distinction, and steam (the software) still deserves zero respect.
edit: btw, i've never used proton and never felt the urge to do so. -

@navi i personally do not value proton, either. so i was trying to humour you by making the assumption that proton was actually something of value -

@mirabilos @lanodan ah so the answer is concatenating a newline to the end of a binary file and then using head or tail (forget which one is posix and i just woke up so i don't want to check yet) to remove the newline afterward -

@lanodan @mirabilos i need to look at POSIX specs but i'm pretty sure sed doesn't putchar('\n') when it hits EOF -

@mirabilos ah, makes sense.
not that i expect it to truly matter on a 1.33GHz G4, but maybe i'll do something about that anyway. Getting the powerbook running linux has been kind of fun just for all the the low hanging fruit endian bugs i find
