    @mir No they're just buggy pieces of shit that cause statistically significant numbers of firefox crashes compared to any other recent x86 CPU

    @icedquinn not sure if it's 100% XHTML which is why it's labelled transitional, but I'm fairly certain I've followed all the rules. Except some pages use <u></u> and <s></s> which is not allowed in "strict" I think. :p

    @icedquinn yes, i know it is, i was hosting this on github pages for years though and also get annoyed setting up my server properly. Originally this was just to get internet exploder to cooperate (I still occasionally test my pages in IE 5)

    “tl;dr: Pragma is a legacy of HTTP/1.0 and hasn’t been needed since Internet Explorer 5, or Netscape 4.7. Unless you expect some of your users to be using IE5: it’s safe to stop using it… If it’s after 1999, and you’re still using Expires or Pragma, you’re doing it wrong.”

    Thus, my pages in 2025: (Fuck you, intentional backwards compatibility breakers)

    My bus mouse-to-PS/2 (or RS-232) converter works now, after adding a 74LS04 chip to invert the mouse button signals. Finally made use of a perfboard I've had sitting around since like 2012 because it doesn't have any copper pads on it and it's kind of a pain to solder stuff onto it.

    Close-up of the bus mouse to PS/2 / RS-232 converter I just got working. I can use it to use PC-98 mouses with my modern PC's, as well as any other quadrature-output mouse with the right pinout.
    Will cut some wires and stuff but it's basically done now.

    @nadiyar
    > why would you use ftp? It's been obsolete for years afaik

    "Obsolete" is a word someone usually uses to dismiss something that still works without having to think of technical reasons why they should not use it. It is usually a marketing tactic to convince people they need to constantly re-invent stuff that already exists and works to make people spend more money. Obsolescence is a state of mind.

    And in a much more real sense, also because IBM's website still hosts some downloads over FTP only (gives you FTP links).

    just waiting for someone to decide "you know what, we need to replace alsa at the kernel level again" and ruin my old sound card at least as badly as dropping X.org would ruin my GPU's.

    This is a placeholder bio for the moment but i'm @wyatt8740@tech.lgbt . It's probably a good idea to follow me here if you follow me there.I'm migrating from tech.lgbt I think. I am getting annoyed with the infighting between instances I want to follow people on.I'm some kind of non-binary trans-feminine, but I'm not too worried about the specifics of my identity. I am me… whatever that means to you. :pI like old thing.<3 C, Unix, shell scripting, old electronics, emacs, & old cute cars. Nearly 30.(Seeking a job!)Current obsessions include Bubblegum Crisis & the NEC PC-9801.I draw pixel art of varying quality.I want to be genuine and connect with others empathetically, bidirectionally; we need more of that and to assume good faith more easily. I still am strongly opinionated though, so I'm sorry if I don't always live up to my own expectations.Vetting follows, it's just a vibe check.LMK if I should CW something or act differently, I want to
