@Gina it's worth noting that Fosstodon *became* an English only server; it didn't start as one. When it changed, there was significant backlash.
Translation services are good enough for moderation, plus there's always the option of starting dialogue with a person to better understand context. I spoke to that somewhere in the thread, but other admins have come out and said the same.
The only limitation is in willingness. Telling someone to GTFO as Kev has done, only shows hostility.

@aral depending on how much you're looking for, check out your local credit union if you haven't already. A lot of them provide mortgages and at competitive rates, though the limit is lower than most banks.

Similar situation in Spain, where N26 issue Spanish IBANs because of IBAN discrimination from utility providers there.
I've also fought Irish utility and telecom companies to accept my non-Irish IBAN. The Central Bank isn't doing enough to pressure or sanction businesses who put roadblocks in the way of people using other EU banks.
