pwm (pwm@pl.absolutelyproprietary.org)'s status on Wednesday, 25-Sep-2024 06:14:28 JST pwm @sun Are you planning to include support for some kind of feed of videos that is automatically processed? even if you don't download everything, perhaps you want to be able to see the list and click, "yes go get that." The list would be site-specific and necessitate some sort of (in this case) plugin to translate site page -> feed of videos that you can then either manually fetch from, or automatically sync.
Basically no matter what downloader you use, you probably want some extensible method to distill some source of videos into a url that yt-dlp (or whatever) can fetch. Then the pipeline is not site-specific, just the distillation.
Food for thought, I guess. -

pwm (pwm@pl.absolutelyproprietary.org)'s status on Wednesday, 25-Sep-2024 06:03:09 JST pwm @sun You are probably going to have to make it.
I don't know how much I would trust youtube not to eventually patch out the rss feed of videos, but you might start with basically a glorified rss reader with the ability to call yt-dlp and ffmpeg -

pwm (pwm@pl.absolutelyproprietary.org)'s status on Wednesday, 25-Sep-2024 06:03:08 JST pwm @sun I would be sure and engineer whatever ingestion pipeline you come up with to be basically implemented as site-specific plugins, for extensibility and future proofing against hostile adversaries. -

pwm (pwm@pl.absolutelyproprietary.org)'s status on Wednesday, 25-Sep-2024 04:23:50 JST pwm @gabriel @sun weighted probabilities on a timer with both grind to skip and pay to skip seems to be the preferred option
The thing you grind or pay for gets you a pull, pulls spin the wheel. The wheel drop rates must be abysmal or people won't do it.
I would also wager that there has been research done to come up with heuristics that fake probability but actually just edge you up and down to control neurotransmitter responses.
I have some guesses but maybe you should think of the reward algorithm more like the yt recommendation algorithm, not like a dice roll. That's probably more effective at maximizing addictive responses. -

You are really only using it as a proxy the meat if your setup lives at home where it's cheaper to have big disks etc
If you get really fancy you don't even have to do tls termination on the vps -

pwm (pwm@pl.absolutelyproprietary.org)'s status on Monday, 23-Sep-2024 03:46:54 JST pwm @not_benis I have only ever once had an ISP that was friendly enough to not filter my traffic and allow me a static IP.
Even then they still didn't allow outbound smtp so you were stuck putting that somewhere else if you had it
