Back in the Navy, guys used to joke about retired submariners, how they'd have preventive maintenance schedules for everything in the home, etc. I used to laugh, too.
Just now I realized that because it's a new quarter, I've changed all the air filters in the house, changed our toothbrush heads, done some paint touch-ups, and because tomorrow is the first Friday of the month, it's time to clean the tub in the washing machine and dishwasher, and give all the drains a chlorine rinse.
I hate to sound like a hopeless fanboi, but over the last 4 days I took a social media break, and one of the things I read was @pluralistic 's Pirate Theater.
My review: Gadzooks! Phwoar!
Even offline, I caught wind of some copyright news, and this book is totally germane. HIGHLY recommend you read it.
My husband's mouse somehow stopped connecting to his PC. No prob. We deleted it from the devices and scanned for Bluetooth devices to reconnect it.
My friends. We were not prepared. We live in a condo building, and apparently, our neighbor got a new Bluetooth-enabled friend for Christmas. It's called "Vibrator03".
If you like being here on the fediverse, please support your local instance. Good practice in general, but I'd like to specifically call out users of mstdn.social - if you're on that instance, you seriously need to throw a few bones @stux 's way. He can't be expected to shoulder the expenses for one of the more important instances all be himself.
Or we can let independent instances die off until Mastodon becomes the private property of one or two centralized instances. Our choice.
Just learned about 500.social which is a Mastodon instance that 1. Is intentionally small, limited to 500 users 2. Requires patronage, albeit a minimal one. 3. It's helmed by @kev , who's also co-captain of fosstodon.org.
I've said it before, I'll say it today, I think this is the future of Mastodon: user-supported and small.
I'm never going to be happy with this bio. ;) Retired. Married, otherwise fairly close to a happy hermit. Mastodon is almost my only contact with other humans. Extremely lucky. Working ranch/rodeo cowboy --> US Navy submariner --> IT guy --> retired with my husband, travels too much.Posts deleted after a week, because looking back isn't where it's at.
