Off of the roadside somewhere in Northern Scotland.
Camping in Northern Scotland.
@hobbsc yep! Not too many mosquitoes right now but a lot of these: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Highland_midge
Is there concern for snaps or flatpaks? Checking my own stuff it looks like applications using bundled liblzma are running in the 5.2.* - 5.4.* versions, but if someone has a bleeding edge application running an affected version, what would the remediation be? Would uninstalling it be sufficient?
Open note to self: the non screw-in audio TRS locking cable jack is called "bayonet"*.
I tend to chew through these for whatever reason so have to remember the term when ordering replacements. I'd been calling them "Sennheiser locks" but that isn't exactly right.
(edit to add- like the B in BNC cable, though these are plastic)
@bobjonkman looks like it started out lower case (Wayback Machine link below), then somewhere along the way people started capitalizing it. I do that now, though that might be from living in Germany for several years and I capitalize more nouns than I used to (even with English), so if/when it's commonly lower cased again from widespread usage maybe it will be returning to its original form :D @evan

Possible origin of the term "The Fediverse" as a term
I'm going from memory, so not sure it's all correct, but usage of the word "Fediverse" early on was typically used with the "!", as a cross-instance general posting group (Fediverse being the "who", in this case "everybody") and was often combined with a subject/topic group (the "what", in the case of !tzag(*), a greeting, which optionally had tags to other subjects or groups.

@slothrop @revk to add to this part of the thread, Tchibo (German coffee shop and variety store) had this available a few months ago.
@jasonkoebler Just a quick side note that I really appreciate the higher contrast on the site which in my case helps a *lot* with readability (though I know everyone has a different use case).
Also, welcome to the Fediverse! I like the way you demonstrated that it's not generally as hard as people think it is to get a handle on it and participate. I know it can be pretty intimidating, especially at first. But I am glad you gave it the chance. There is more- but I figure you will find it. :)
The nightly storm is on the way.
@dwarf ugh, I just ran into that with an external DAC with a less common sized barrel plug, but luckily we found something that matched (and still seems to be working, fingers crossed). I hope you find it in stock soon (or a replacement)
@dwarf correct- you want to match both the power specifications and the barrel plug size (if it's that type). The original brick should have a manufacturer and model number on it, you can search on that for replacements of the same brand or equivalent replacements.
@evan I've thought about this for a few hours, and this is exactly the kind of question that has me evaluating larger life choices and day-to-day routine.
For example, consuming an avocado is very different from where I came from (California) and where I am now (Germany).
Also, is it helpful to provide a non-native habitats to endangered plants, or will the energy it takes to maintain various microclimates cause more harm down the road?
Things like that. In short, I still don't know.
@evan another example is this (the Darlingtonia Californica): https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/darlingtonia-californica/
which honestly- is beautiful, interesting and not at all suited to be a houseplant. The natural habitat range is small and getting smaller over time from climate change, land development and poaching.
However, they are greenhouse grown here in Germany and ethically-sourced. But to keep them alive when you get them home takes extra effort and energy (including 0/low TDS water) so they do not die right away.
@mattl can you deliver to Germany? I still haven't figured out what I'm making yet for dinner

I think my answer depends on whether the question of taking care to recognize is internal
e.g. "I'm using Mastodon, a popular interface using the ActivityPub protocol to connect with the social web area of the Fediverse, and Mastodon is not an endpoint/destination in itself."
which recognizes that other software and protocols exist without (explicitly) naming them
or
talking with different people, and for brevity doing a summary/tl;dr which will exclude things
gotcha (bowing out)
