Hi fedi, I need a replacement adapter for my keyboard. It has a 12V connector but the original brick has the following specs:
DC12V 16VA 700mA
...that probably means I can't just buy any type of adapter, right?

@Dwarf (dwarf@borg.social)'s status on Thursday, 05-Jan-2023 02:40:36 JST @Dwarf @benis@cawfee.club so something like 1000mA would be fine even though the original was 700mA? I seem to have thrown the old power supply away when I moved here it seems so no luck with that :( The keyboard itself just says "rated for 12V, AC power adaptor: yamaha PA-3C", but that adapter is no longer for sale it would seem.

Generational Wealth (benis@cawfee.club)'s status on Thursday, 05-Jan-2023 02:40:37 JST Generational Wealth @dwarf as long as the plug size AND POLARITY* is maintained, the output voltage is the same, and it supplies at least the rated current, anything will do
*most daily stuff takes a center positive supply, but most music gear uses center negative supplies. check the label on your current PSU to make sure -

DeeAnn Little (chillicampari@layer8.space)'s status on Thursday, 05-Jan-2023 02:43:46 JST DeeAnn Little @dwarf correct- you want to match both the power specifications and the barrel plug size (if it's that type). The original brick should have a manufacturer and model number on it, you can search on that for replacements of the same brand or equivalent replacements.

DeeAnn Little (chillicampari@layer8.space)'s status on Thursday, 05-Jan-2023 02:49:23 JST DeeAnn Little @dwarf ugh, I just ran into that with an external DAC with a less common sized barrel plug, but luckily we found something that matched (and still seems to be working, fingers crossed). I hope you find it in stock soon (or a replacement)

Jon Hendry (jonhendry@hachyderm.io)'s status on Thursday, 05-Jan-2023 03:41:29 JST Jon Hendry You want the current to be at least what it originally had (700mA) but having more available (1000mA) won't be a problem. It just won't use it. And hopefully the keyboard has protections inside in case something shorts and tries to use more than 700mA.

Generational Wealth (benis@cawfee.club)'s status on Thursday, 05-Jan-2023 03:41:42 JST Generational Wealth @dwarf the pictures of it I could find show that it's a center positive PSU so you're going to have an easy time finding a replacement, you just need to find one that physically fits
Yeah, 1000mA (1A) would do fine, because current is a consequence of voltage. A healthy circuit is never going to pull too much current.@Dwarf likes this. -
