@evan I remember the google nym wars days. And I wish I had saved the research, but I found a couple of university studies that showed that real names did NOT result in more civil online behavior. Anyway. I have been NomdeB online for a couple of decades now. People know me and my online personality as NomdeB. They can judge my civility based on my history. How would people know I was really Jane Doe anyway (and what would it matter) if I had used my real name.
What's crazy to me is that extremist Americans don't appear to realize that all these insane cuts by Republicans and the Trump administration are also going to set this country back economically for decades and more, assuming it even recovers competitively on the world stage. Even if that's all they care about. #USPol#USEconomy
@marbresbizarres this part is hard to share, but our advice having gone through this is we think it is better to err on the side of two weeks too early than two hours too long. Letting them go before suffering is the hardest thing ever. But the kindest. Lap of love will do hospice care. They will let you know when it’s time.
@marbresbizarres we made the decision that the moment chemo was impacting quality of life that we would stop. We think both girls had an extra year of high quality life because of the treatment we chose. They were different ergo we made different choices. One’s cancer was more advanced. We did frequent scans so we knew the medical situation which helped with our timing. My heart goes out to you.
@marbresbizarres re info. My husband and went through this with both our sister pups. One we did surgery and chemo. Then palliative care. The other just chemo. Then palliative care. I would recommend reading the pet loss “articles” at www.griefhealing.com (they are a little hard to find in the website.) i cannot speak more highly about lap of love who will come to your home. https://www.lapoflove.com/
@HistoPol@patmikemid@GottaLaff One million percent with you about seeing Musk destroyed as punishment for the way he has destroyed US government and caused so much harm, pain and suffering. Very unhappy that Ukraine will pay a price for trusting Musk's slop though. :( At least right now. I do see Europe is stepping up to provide other satellite comms as Starlink is not reliable.
@HistoPol@GottaLaff Absolutely not surprised given how sloppy Musk is about everything. BUT. Does this impact the Ukranian Armed Forces? Also a lesson to all about relying on dilettantes like Musk for critical services.
@Kierkegaanks@RickiTarr I don’t know how he ever got a reputation as a genius. He was in the right place at the right time with PayPal etc money (he was booted out of PayPal) and anything he has designed or promised has failed.
@APBBlue having spent time in boarding school in India, boiling water in a pot and having a bucket bath is all very familiar. 😊
And now you have reminded me of time my FIL told the story of how their hotel in NE India advertised they had hot running water. Turns out a man came running to their room carrying a bucket of hot water. 🤣
@inthehands setting aside the ignorance and insanity of their plans, there is no amount of money you could pay me to use or test anything conceived of, managed, or coded by these half wits. I will never set foot in a Tesla. Not go near any of his rocket launches nor his robots or autonomous cars. Musk is a dangerous imbecile. How he has managed to fool some many people for so long, I do not understand. #USPol#Tesla#SocialSecurity#Incompetents
Throwing this out to fediverse. As I handled my FIL and now just MIL’s medical records, bills, insurance for them I am finding so many errors. Info overlooked, overpayments, etc. Wondering if there’s good software for tracking medical history AND billing AND insurance, etc. I have done a few searches but am really only finding health apps. I want a head start on compiling hubby’s and my medical history and billing so we don’t end up in the mess my in-laws did. #medical_data#medicalsoftware
One of my projects is scanning in tens of thousands of family slides and photos taken over the years (since the late 1800s in fact.) The family lived in India for decades. This is one of my faves from Kaziranga National Park, where you go out on elephants to watch the rhinos, because elephants can get very close to them, even with people as passengers.
This photo taken by my FIL cracks me up. I call it "Elephant, Mud, and the White Sari."
Turns out American democracy was living paycheck to paycheck.
As for national security and the economy, we have already proven to be untrustworthy international partners. This will not change for decades, if ever, even if we get rid of the current regime.
Ignorance and apathy is how we reached this point. Unless we ALL step up now, this is a downwards spiral to the death. Nobody is coming to save us. We have to save ourselves.
@snopes My humble suggestion is that for Trump and Musk, you create an inverse Snopes. Default is that it's fantasy or a lie, and then report when something actually *is* real and true.
Insatiably curious. Lover of language. Fascinated by patterns. Gets lost down rabbit holes. A trifle geeky and rebellious. How does it work? Why? Loves animals, music, art. World Citizen (Lived in India, Iran, Lebanon, UK, now USA) Current obsessions: 25k+ photo & ancestry mash up project (year 1900+ and NE Tribal India), and home makerspace & laser cutting design. AND Pachyderms. :) Onwards and upwards towards the world we could be. Be a strong voice for the voiceless. She/her.
