From what I could find that had a price tag of 2200 DM 1978 in Germany. This would be around 3400 EUR in today's money.

That's not the range an 'average customer' expects a radio receiver to be in these days.

I get all the nostalgia and the visual/tactile feel and the engineering aspect and the durability. But only very few privileged people would have had those.

@isotopp So the 3rd wave of AI is ... less AI? Because doing it badly with statistics showed that it's possible to do it better with deterministic algorithms?

Is there something that you would consider a canonical source for how to do that? I know many projects that work that way (and do it well), but I'm always hesitant to just copy their solution as they mostly seem to be custom made, and I don't want to add yet another variant to that.
It's easy enough to set up docker(-compose) files that you don't NEED a how-to, but it would help in standardization.

After IG introduced stories, there was much backlash and it's regarded as the first stepping stone turning it from a beloved photography-centered community into a snapchat-wannabe social media disaster.

While I personally look forward to stories, have you thought about the impact it will have on the pixelfed community and if it's really the right move to integrate it into the same service/app?

Just curious if you spent any thought on that.

Back in the day, 2FA meant:
"Something you know", usually a password of arbitrary length and sophistication and
"Something you have", usually a *second* set of HW like a phone or a token.

Now 2FA seams to mean: Your phone, secured by a few-digits numerical pin or a biometric factor that can be applied without your consent.

That's it. One piece of HW and a weak authentication.

I really don't see the improvement here.

@BeAware I just took another look at static site generators. I'm more comfortable serving a static site from my own server relying only on a trusted nginx and minimal js/css.
To my surprise, there are some that support fediverse connections via periodically run asynchronous cron-jobs.
That's still minimal attack surface.

@BeAware You are correct. I meant fediverse services like Pleroma, Hubzilla etc.

Read some articles about other mastodon services lately and thought about restarting to do some macro-blogging.

But seems my requirements are too specific to be met by those tools.

Does somebody know a services that hosts the frontend and handles the federation, but lets me keep my content (text, media) on my home server?

I don't have the time to keep on my toes about securing a complex webapp with lots of attack surface, but want to keep in control of the original content.
