We finally got around to watching Beetlejuice Beetlejuice yesterday evening.
Turns out we really liked it and it wasn't a disappointment at all. Probably Tim Burton's best work in over 15 years.
Unsurprisingly, I loved everything about Catherine O'Hara's character return. I felt a bit odd about Winona's character having a lot less self-confidence, but life can do that to you, especially with her abilities.
The movie felt pretty smooth, Burton stuck to what he does well, everything felt upgraded but still true to the original.
That they turned Beetlejuice into more of a hero than a villain actually felt interesting and rather wholesome. As wholesome as Beetlejuice as a character can go.
I was worried about Jenna Ortega's involvement at first but she didn't bother me at all.
Monica Bellucci provided some gorgeous eye candy as well.
All in all, a very well-rounded movie that I might've even enjoyed more than the original (first watch, at least).
