So. My #ttrpg party adopted an ancient, wrinkly, hairless monkey named Haarald (the Germans will groan because they get it) with a glass eye as their pet (and familiar to one of the characters) who probably has every disease (including STDs) known to man, curses like sailor, has dirty old man humor and was probably already there when the gods created the world. We assume he is on cute-nickname-basis with some of them. Not only is he somehow relevant for almost every scene, since my players are way too creative in finding ways to insert this monkey, there is now a meme category on my Discord server with Haarald memes. This is getting out of hand.
My counter-argument is that if someone starts to move, others will follow (not me, obvs, ppl never follow where I go, but that's another point). The more just do it, the more will do so too, just to remain part of the herd. It's the same with all things, really. Politics too. You have to get one person who is well connected to make the switch. Usually others will follow then.
Another thing, that is much harder to dispel, is the argument of convenience. People actually like the algorithm. It shows them what they might like (should like), suggests contacts from their bubble, highlights posts from friends automatically and so on, without any effort on their part.
Fedi only works if you put effort into it. If you engage with other people. It's true social media. Many people don't want this. Like, at all. They want a curated selecion of bits of social media presented on a silver platter, without any need to do anything. They have a similiar expectation towards it like people used to have towards TV. The digital fire you can stare into after a day, not a lively fire spirit who wants to chat with you.
@MagicLike@mstdn.social@kaia@brotka.st Hallo?
*zufriedenes Lindner-Nicken*
… wer wählt diese Arschlöcher eigentlich immer? Und warum?
Personally, I think the max age for entering politics should be capped at 55. After that, just enjoy your f-ing retirement and let people who see the future more clearly than the past handle things.
Also, digitalization in Germany: At the (privatized) hospital my mom was admitted to, there is WLAN. In theory.
But to get a temporary login you need to go down to the lobby, find an actual physical vending machine and insert real money cash, actual coins, to get a little paper coupon with your login on it. (what, you thought it was free? don't be ridiculous)
And it was such a kafkaesque experience. Imagine: There is a company designing, building and selling these machines. Somewhere a bunch of idiots thought, what if we spend unholy amounts of money on a machine that requires physical money tokens to print access information to a WLAN on little strips of paper? What a genius innovation. This must be part of the paperless office everyone is talking about since the 00s.
Also imagine, if you're with an injured leg on the 2nd floor above the lobby and just want to listen to some music. Better have someone with some gold coins in their little leather pouch ready to make the journey. Repeatedly, because ofc you can't buy them in bulk, they're timed to actual time, not time used.
No wonder people prefer to use their mobile net, even if it is hella expensive.
Lovely. Our chancellor is obviously amused by the fact that he never got held responsible for his part in the cum ex magic trick that made about 30 billion € in tax money disappear. He is literally telling jokes about it on television.
These are the times we live in. Yet everyone of us lowly peons is expected to obey the law or else.
If you steal, steal big. That's the difference between a thief and a successful businessman.
@jacklaridian@social.horrorhub.club That sounds a bit like bs. I read that there would be an opt-out option, but I dunno. I think the safest way for everyone would be to defed from every instance supporting this.
Non-Mastodon instances like Akkoma or Misskey can have a bigger character limit. My instance runs on Sharkey and has a character limit of, I think, 2800.
Honestly, that is the main reason I would never go back to Mastodon as a client, even if there is no good app for iOS supporting the 'keys. I like using words. Err, I might even abuse that privilege a bit too. :neofox_laugh_nervous:
One thing I find mildly amusing about Trump is, that whenever he starts talking (using that term in the loosest sense of the word) about something he doesn't have a clue of (which obvs is almost always the case) he starts freestyling in the dumbest most ridiculous way possible, just this short of flailing his arms helplessly. Guess that's where all the confused handwaving comes from. Like a schoolkid who has to give a book report in front of the class and has no idea what the book is about, thus throwing out buzzwords, fillers and even made-up words to get it over with somehow and change the subject at the earliest moment, hoping in his idiocy, that no one will notice. The cringe is real.
The less amusing part is, that it actually seems to work. (Cringe intensifies) Meaning both his audience and the media outlets, treating him like a real adult, trying to "interpret" the gibberish he is spouting, actually are dumb enough to fall for it. And that is scary.
Same goes for comedy and so-called "late night" shows that see in him a source of comedic material and not much more. And I don't know – Trump has always been funny in the same way the Joker is funny. Yes, technically, somehow, a bit. But it is only superficial buffoonery and mostly viciousness and violence. And people suffer and/or die along the way, so that should put a damper on the comedic effect for any sane person. But either there are no sane people in US Media or I'm lacking the required sense of humor.
I also find it odd how american audiences in these shows always cheer when another step of non-progress in his trials is announced. I know they get a cue to do so, but don't they get tired of this? There is nothing to cheer. These cheers are a bit embarrassing, actually. It's the impotence of their law on full display for all the world to see. At some point even they have to realize that this is a perpetual cycle of non-development, right? I mean, they have to eventually, don't they? The most optimistic stance would be to keep the cheering for when something actually happens. But, yeah. No.
Are there really people stupid enough to believe he is "going behind bars"? C'mon, it's not like he is black and got caught missing a red traffic light. Trump is a white rich fascist fuck who did try to topple the US government. Of course he will not go to prison. He will not even be fined in a way that will hurt him. Just like no rich person anywhere will face legal consequences for their actions. This only happens in the movies.
There is a plausible likelihood that this senile gangster will get another shot at US presidency. Frankly, I find it highly inappropriate to make light of that. Talking about him, yes, unfortunately necessary, but please not in a way that paints him as entertaining or funny.
His adoring crowd of fascists is one thing, but these cheers really make me shake my head.
Not big on OS evangelism. My take? All OSes suck. Just in different ways. They also shine every now and then in different ways but I would consider none of them great overall. They're all usable. I guess that's enough, though.
Huh. The Bundesregierung is about to release a law against the harassment of women in front of clinics and advice centers, as done by self-titled pro-lifers (another fine import from the US of A, but I do like that the media just stoically calls them anti-abortionists).
There is also an official, and very german, term for it: "Gehsteigbelästigung" (sidewalk harassment).
Whenever I think our government is a lost cause, they do someting like this and I'm like "huh".
SO YOU DO KNOW WHAT IS RIGHT AND DECENT, WHY DON'T YOU APPLY THIS TO EVERYTHING?!
Oh, yes. Right. I forgot. We also have the neoliberals in our government.
Alignments in #ttrpg are bullshit, IMHO. I never bothered to introduce them to any campaign world I ever created. And you could always tell who the good guys and who the bad guys were. Even if it sometimes depened on which side you were on.
There is some merit to the chaos/order axis, but no one is completely one or the other. And don't get me started on "neutral" alignments. What rubbish. You're always something to someone at least, no one is without any opinion or completely balanced and fair all the time (also, I think that would make you an agent of order in the best sense of the word).
I always like the approach of defining your characters' morality or inner workings by quotes, catchphrases or example. And I'm happy when a game picks up on these nuanced concepts.
