Search engines have become so bad that we might just reinvent thematic link pages and webrings.

I’m thiiiiiis close to dusting off the basic html skills I haven’t used for 12 years to make a super simple page linking to my favourite sewing and knitting pattern resources. Googling for patterns returns AI crap and Shein e-commerce all the time.

There is one account whose messages I always stop and read on this website: @auschwitzmuseum They are doing precious work to keep alive the memory of people murdered in Auschwitz.
They have been stuck at almost 100,000 followers for months. If you don’t already follow them, do so now. Keep their memory alive.

We know that “never again” is a failure. But as long as genocides keep happening in this world, we can demonstrate that we will never let such a crime go missing in our memories. Never forget.

Train schedules or pedestrian flows in the high street never get this treatment. Yet they impact more people.
It creates a sense of urgency for one problem (“so much traffic all the time”) but not others (“trains are crowded, sidewalks are too narrow”).

Something that’s normalized that’s actually super weird: the amount of time dedicated on the radio to talk about traffic jams. Coming just after the weather forecast, which is relevant for everyone, we hear about car traffic which impacts a small minority of people. But the placement, plus the regularity of it, gives the impression that it’s a high interest item.

Every few months, while I cycle to work, I notice I am putting more effort, getting a little bit more breathless, and tell myself I need to do more exercise to get in better shape.
And then @Pepijn glances at my bike, picks up the pump and inflates my tires. Inevitably, the next time I ride, I feel like I’m flying.

I wish you all to have someone in your life who inflates your tires, literally or figuratively.

I’m currently following a presentation on change management that quotes something from McKinsey every other slide, and I trust the content less every minute.

Non-French media seems to be widely reporting on the election in France as “fascism defeated” so I want to make it clear that no, we did not in fact defeat fascism. Fascism progressed a bit less than we thought it would, but it progressed nonetheless. We’re relieved, but no one on the French left is under the impression that we solved the problem. There is a lot of work to do.

How to get empty buses:
- schedule 4/5 buses a day at random times
- change the timetable and route without warning
- don’t have covered and accessible bus stops
- 90% of potential users drive their car because it’s just too complicated
- buses are empty! they’re costing money, let’s go down to 2/3 buses a day to be efficient
- repeat until there are no buses and your car-centric society is solidly established
- “people in the countryside just prefer cars unlike all these wokes in big cities”

I just watched a video showing a little baby killed by Israel’s latest attack on Rafah. With his eyes half closed and his mouth open, he looks like my little girl when she’s asleep. How lucky am I that I know I can walk in the bedroom and I will hear her breathing. There are mothers tonight who can’t hear their baby’s breath.

An attack on children is an attack on all of humanity. This must end now.

It is soon International Women’s Rights Day. To mark the occasion, I would like all men who are thinking of writing something on social media to praise a woman to make sure that this woman is 1) alive and 2) not someone you are related to.

I especially do not want to hear that you found out women are people too when you got a daughter, or that you admire women because you have a mother.
