@Infoseepage @maxleibman To be fair, resilience is put in second place over usability when designing alternatives to passwords, mostly because it's easier to say "just buy a second device/key" than trying to solve it in other way. Also because the companies designing those alternatives happen to sell phones and security keys.

@whitequark to be fair, when they implement support to custom headers it will be better than GitHub Pages: my mkvextract project is having an issue where ffmpeg now requires threading support to compile and it requires setting some HTTP headers, which is only possible in GH using service workers. If I migrate there I wouldn't need to implement this workaround.

@xkcd I wonder how has been how many days since I saw someone complaining about the abuse of alt text on Mastodon.

In the case of the XKCD Bot, that's responsibility of Randall of abusing the title tag from <img> element which was meant to work like alt text, but is used for commentary/joke continuation.

I like that the people behind the bot always updates posts with a proper alt text while still leaving Randall's title text. About the "alt text purists", from those who are really "alt text" users (e.g. people that use screen readers, or use alt text because mental issues make it too hard for them to recognize image patterns, or have slow internet and use alt text because images don't load) I would like to hear suggestions from them, or if they are fine with this kind of usage.

@ryanc Question: selfie verification was the best option they had? I remember bypassing a selfie verification system a long time ago: it was implemented using JavaScript, client-side code, you should never trust code on the client! I just disabled the camera verification code and throw up a virtual camera.

@cadusilva I'm using Wg Server for Windows. Since it's a GUI that handles everything it's really easy to set up. Anyway, v2ray is not working: the V2RayNG app only connects to v2ray but it can't connect to WireGuard after that, and WG Tunnel does not support v2ray. To be fair I couldn't find any good tutorial for v2ray, I had to ask ChatGPT in the hope it would steal some settings it found on GitHub and cross-check it with the documentation (which is WIP). :btr_bocchi_pain:

@cadusilva I checked the v2ray plugin and it looks like I would have to run it in the client too, so I checked if the Android client I use supports it, seems it does with a plugin. But I also noticed my WireGuard client also supports Amnezia, so I got curious: it's the same protocol but with some few changes to make it harder to detect. Do you know anything about it and its claims of being harder to detect?
Edit: I tried it, it's sus: the only way to setup self-hosting is by providing it SSH credentials of a Linux server. I will look into something else.
