@RegGuy@hacks4pancakes Last night, my uncle (investor/manager, zero computing background) called me saying he wants to install OpenClaw on his machine (and "to automate my company") with a lot of FOMO energy. He asked me because he didn't have the skill to figure out how to install that (and yet still thinks it is fine to let it "automate" his company, unmaintained?) I honestly don't know how to dissuade him.
@whitequark I think maybe a bit more explanation of the project's purpose for the uninformed? Like Caddy can also serve static files, so what does git-pages add on top of it?
@0xabad1dea Many Chinese publications don't care about copyrights overseas at all. Similarly, you can see copyrighted background music on Chinese video platforms all the time (as long as the music isn't protected in China, the platforms generally don’t care)
@inthehands@cazencott I spoke with a lot of my university classmates (who are on average 10 years younger than me). Despite their age, many of them are more cautious and self-aware about using LLMs than many of the professors and TAs. Also, high-performing students trust LLMs way less than low-performing ones.
@inthehands I was forced by my university courses to use those tools 😬. Putting my own aversion aside, I think they are useful to setting up boilerplates, and also helpful from time to time when I am stuck. However, anything "agent" where LLM performs tasks automatically for you is usually more of a time sink at the end
I’d appreciate it if tech writers use fewer words like "easy," "simple," and "straightforward." These terms provide no real information and can only make readers feel stupid when something doesn’t seem as easy as claimed
I much prefer being here compared to Bluesky, but there's nothing wrong with people making different choices. It turns out insinuating that others aren't making good judgments isn't an effective way to attract people
@inthehands@mekkaokereke I never thought it from the DEI perspective, but "weed out" intro courses always felt like excuses for horrible teaching for me
