Honest Question:

Is any aspect of our country ACTUALLY a democracy? Because I'm pretty sure the US is a Republic.

But maybe there are aspects that are Democratic?

Why would they stop beeping? Fire codes demand that smoke detectors be wired to permanent power. They have batteries in case the power goes out and a fire breaks out.

The constant power keeps them running, and acknowledging the low battery inside them.
