Thing about ableist tropes is that they're often templates for other prejudices.
"I don't understand why you don't just do what I do. It's easy for me. Therefore you shouldn't have a problem. It's a non-issue."
Chronic illness. Homelessness. Racialization. Poverty & debt. Sexism. Transphobia. Xenophobia in all forms.

Those people are complaining for no comprehensible reason. I don't have a problem, so obviously they don't either. 🤔

Democrats want to lose.
They know that if they do, folk will be all the more determined to put someone even worse then Vibe'n in office four years from now. (Assuming that's even an option by then.)
That's how the #KayfabePanto #ratchet works.
Pantomime is all about audience activation.
The goal is to get everyone who disagrees with Vibe'n's colonialist policies to swallow their principles and learn to love genocide so long as it's the right color.
Which is to say, #RentierSociety is not capitalist society, yet neither any sort of "neo"-feudalism.
Where estates of the realm checked power of king by checking the power of each the other…
Estates of rentier society check power of each #classposture which #tensegrity cultivates for #RentBounty harvest…
Very power of those so subjugated being the crop: #conveyancee, levied for exchange value; #disaccommodation, tilled for #EgoValue; #conquistadas, reproductive labor-power, itself, harnessed.
Presented without comment:
SHAMEFUL!! You shouldn't get attention!
Early on in our current era of apologism, there was a narrative that masks were detrimental to social interaction because folk couldn't see one another smile.
This despite the fact that a true smile is in the eyes, not the lips.
Now we're at stage where the narrative is that masks prevent identification by the #FifthEstate.
This despite the fact that, once again, identity is found more in the eyes than in the mouth, the nose or the chin.
Almost as if being seen was always about how we see.
Perhaps also an inherently conservative deference to authority plays into this.
Academia being a culture of name dropping formalized as citation, after all.
If the last century and three quarters of Leftism has taught us anything, it is that history can shackle as easily as it can liberate.
Historical lessons manifesting less as praxis than as parable, gospel of the épistémè, thus antiphronêtic.
Constant ableist drumbeat of "road fatalities are up because covid" is gonna result in efforts to revoke the right to drive, in a country that makes driving necessary to so many as a means of survival.
Meanwhile, fatalities will continue to increase as more and more of the remaining drivers on the road occupy larger and still larger vehicles that give them an embodied sense of their own safety, rendering those around them as at once insignificant and responsible for anything that may go wrong.
Still haven't spoons to dig into NTSB data:

Nonetheless, would note that traffic fatalities have been more-or-less upward trajectory in the U.S. since deaths per millions bottomed out last decade. U.S. saw sharp increases 2015-16 also. (Admittedly, not as sharp as 2020-21.)
Other countries are on par with declining trends, with most of that decline appearing to happen in the decades before 2010.
Like death by police, death by vehicle has more than just recent history.
Fourth estate loves to hype up narratives of bad things happening more frequently.
We saw this with claims about violent crime and retail thefts—both involved numbers being used in ways that served interests of power.
If press is making a big stink about rising traffic fatalities, first question is "since when"; second is "what has that trend looked like" since well before then.
Not everything is about ongoing pandemic. History began before 2020. Covid is but one thread of a beknotted tangle.
Interestingly, immediately obvious candidate, that our vehicles are getting heavier—thus more likely to result in deaths when accidents do occur—doesn't seem to be reflected by data either.
If anything, with exception of pickups, vehicle weight has been flat or declining since 2005. Yet, decade into that trend is when U.S. traffic fatality rates start climbing.
Now, NTSB data might reveal that rising traffic fatality was driven by monster pickup trucks. Only those have been growing since 80s.

As more and more folk experience Long Covid, fewer and fewer have been staffing our hospitals.

[This is first toot of weekly thread, updated daily, providing various dataviz of ongoing #pandemic.]
Last week: https://disabled.social/@beadsland/112554648070773407
"Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH)…continues to struggle daily with unprecedented overcrowding – particularly in its Emergency Department (ED)."
Statistics, as always, are structural.
If MGH can be in 16-month unprecedented crisis w/out ever topping 100% reported capacity, imagine degree of crisis in hospitals ≥100%.
That said, HHS data didn't include ED patients awaiting inpatient beds—as of May, we don't even have HHS data.
Now a historical document.
With hospital capacity going from mandatory to voluntary, control of public data was transferred from HHS to CDC:
https://disabled.social/@beadsland/112420181964381951
CDC's expurgated public data file provides no information about capacity in pediatric wards and children's hospitals:

Thus, the below chart will receive no further updates. Being maintained for now as a historical document.
Let's hope we won't regret the loss of data:

May 1, mandatory reporting of hospital capacity data ended. May 3, HHS released their final raw datasets through April 27:

May 10, CDC released expurgated version of hospitals data. Despite some 95% of hospitals from prior week still voluntarily reporting, much data no longer available:
