@goatsarah ah I hadn't heard that (not going anywhere near threads) but I guess maybe they've got to find their feet on moderation.

But you are right, if they don't then that is another good reason to defed

@goatsarah I think the schism talk is overdone. I suspect what might happen is that all the "cool kids" will be on threads so inevitably those who want to talk to them will eventually migrate to threads.

I suspect any migration will be away from the fediverse.

@atomicpoet I've not used *key but presumably the negatives are similar there as here?

The issues of moderation etc must be similar across the Fediverse.. or have they somehow dealt with the CW issues that POC pointed out were unfriendly to them?

@atomicpoet how do /kbin posts look if you follow their accounts from eg *keys? I wonder if replies appear if one can reply to posts from outwith of /kbin

Edit answered my own question - seems like most of the replies are actually from lemmy instances

@atomicpoet it's only my opinion, but I suspect many westerners leave because they've been conditioned to believe something about *clout* on Facebook/twitter/insta

personal branding doesn't really work in federated social networks. So they migrate back to the places where these dreams are sold

I think the majority of the growth in the *keys services is non-western. Maybe I'm wrong in that.

@fu some sub-saharan African countries have mobile phone providers that give free or cheaper access to twitter and facebook.

So if it is more expensive to access mastodon then that's a disincentive to use it. Hence very few Africans here.

The fediverse is not welcoming to those non-white-non-English people who found a space on twitter to engage with their peers.
