Pleased to have an entire row to myself 😁

Time for plane no. 2.
I enjoyed the 10 minutes spent landside at Shanghai.
Culturally, even though this is a fairly major international airport, it felt very different to the West.
The sheer number of staff milling around! The immigration agents had a sort of parade with their stamps.
Security felt rather dated in comparison, although certainly effective. My bag was dissected several times!
The local currency here.
Salted herring and tuna broccoli salad is the ideal breakfast 👍 Japan has already won me over.
Other Western tourists are eyeing the options with great suspicion!
My Suica has been vandalised!
It transpires this has a leuco rewritable coating, so special products (like this 1 day season) are literally lasered onto the front (including a map!) and overwritten/removed once used.
Extremely extra but very cool. I've never seen one of these in the wild before.
I am intending to get a JR Pass. Anyone want to dissuade me from that?
Haven't done the calculations in depth, but from reading Seat61 it seems I'll get most of the value back from the few long distance Shinkansens (up and down the country), so any savings buying individual tickets will be marginal.

We were missing each other so much after #eth0, @linus & I had an impromptu reunion at St Pancras this evening... :neocat: (he beat me there by 3 minutes)
..oh, and I also remembered to relieve him of the NS train display that he brought back via Eurostar!
Thanks @linus :neocat_pleading: :linuspet:
Eat more Tosti!
The management have been measuring the tosti consumption rate, and it is not acceptable.
Try harder! #eth0
@philpem I continue to have good experiences with ThinkPads 🙂

I made it back from #WHY2025 teardown yesterday (onto the ferry with -4 minutes spare, and a telling off).
My server broke halfway through the event, so it's catching up on 200,000 posts :slowparrot:
Once those are processed and my new uplink is sorted, I'll post some on my photos from the event.
For now, I will do more sleeping :neocat_up_sleep:
I think maybe people who insist on phoning me should consider the reason I don't pick up and am "difficult" about asking for email instead, is that I receive so many random cold calls from numbers I don't know.
I do not understand why, in 2025, people think calling is more likely to get a response. For me, it's more likely to be ignored.
@linus @jessew I remember when Minecraft launched. Sit down Linus
Does DuckDuckFedi have any recommendations for houseplants which are low maintenance and preferably more interesting than green succulents?
