@aral I don't get this. If Apple can provide this, it wasn't encrypted to begin with and they are likely already giving the info and this is just a PR campaign to adjust the public's expectations about these things.

If that cannot provide this, because it is encrypted with a key only the consumer can provide, then it's a moot point.

This is why I use @nextcloud and host it myself.

Not good. It's like making people switch to WhatsApp 2. It will just make it evern harder to make them switch again once this "secure" messenger turns out to - surprise, surprise - spy on them also.

Confusing legality with morality is dumb. Literally the actual folks shoving you into the gas chamber will be cops or military.

I'm not surprised. Every time I see something like this, and other people's indignation (as if they expected something different), I am reminded about how soon the world will be tossed into shambles, and how the general public doesn't know this.

That's why I always go for projects where people work for free. Then I donate money to them. Everyone has to eat, but nothing good comes out of capitalism.
