@inthehands we should expect that heavily armed ICE agents will be present at most voting locations in 2028 if not 2026, checking people's identification as they wait in line, randomly ripping people away to be sent to detention or disappeared for made up reasons. They will have the funds to do this and it's clear that even in 2025 there is zero legal/civic/criminal recourse against this, not even a nationwide injunction. Not a governor. Not a judge. Nothing. Only the whitest, bilssfully-FOXED, most faithful MAGA voter would feel comfortable actually voting.
@inthehands musk could step down as CEO. He could do a whole Travis Kalanick routine. Brands like Mercedes, Volkswagen heck even Ford survived their nazi / fascist roots .
More simply I think if Musk could just stay out of the headlines and off X (this part is likely impossible as long as he's a drug addict), the public would move on (but I think a resign is what he'd need given who he is)
@inthehands 100% from donors who think they're smarter than us, and they read all of what Ezra Klein writes, and they're like, wait we're the billionaires here , we get what WE want. That's how this works so get in line
@mekkaokereke @SnerkRabbledauber @PizzaDemon can we get a link to a quote from Biden at least ? He threw out some line about "reducing crime", ok, sounds typical and not ideal, but then he said "which as you know is entirely the single cause of post-pandemic economic hardship" ? Having trouble putting that together. Also the Southern Strategy is a Republican thing ? What's that got to do with Biden ?
@inthehands *compromise and cooperation between centrists and leftists to achieve a common goal of defeating fascism*
@inthehands this isn't going to bring new voters to Trump. It's widely accepted that Israels response has been excessively brutal and fails to provide for a day two plan.
Pythoners!
is there a linter / flake8 plugin etc for this pattern:
if thing():
return
else:
otherthings()
Where it requires you to write:
if thing():
return
otherthings()
?
@inthehands @ProPublica that would be insane. What on earth finally got the legislature to capitulate on *anything * ?
@b0rk I stayed a hardcore Mercurial user through Git's early ascendance. git rebase was sold to me again and again and I continued to think it was insane. As you might expect, my workflow is entirely based on rebase these days, both for my OSS work and my dayjob. What people weren't able to tell me back then was that the rule-free branching model of git is to facilitate code review. we don't just write code, we author commit streams to tell a clear story of how code evolved for a final change
@brettcannon looks like a tough spot, first I'm seeing this and my initial impression, which is worth nothing, is "why?" , but given that, certainly using a format we already have and is extensible is preferable to "let's make a whole new format that's "easy"", because any format that's "easy" only seems that way because it hasnt matured.
