The billions and billions of dollars this bill pumps into ICE far exceeds any conceivable legitimate need the agency could have, even if you agree with its mission.

This bill takes the same masked, anonymous gunmen who have been kidnapping people off the streets and gives them a budget the size of a military.

This is not about honoring the law. This is not even about immigrants.

This is about creating a police state.

I see no other way to read these numbers. https://mastodon.world/@MJmusicinears/114764606160963355

@inthehands we should expect that heavily armed ICE agents will be present at most voting locations in 2028 if not 2026, checking people's identification as they wait in line, randomly ripping people away to be sent to detention or disappeared for made up reasons. They will have the funds to do this and it's clear that even in 2025 there is zero legal/civic/criminal recourse against this, not even a nationwide injunction. Not a governor. Not a judge. Nothing. Only the whitest, bilssfully-FOXED, most faithful MAGA voter would feel comfortable actually voting.

@inthehands you got the 2nd amendment for a reason, next time you see a masked person with a vest rush from an unmarked vehicle you know what to do.

I do not want to live in a country or a world where this is how we do things. The point of having democracy and the rule of law is to be an alternative to that. Take them away, and I shudder to think what is coming.

After the immigrants, they will look for new minorities. This is how fascism works. Hatred is needing more and more food.

Dems have not spoken about this at all!! Only about Medicaid and Snap. Why not? This is a much bigger and more dangerous issue!! JFC it is a Police State that can subvert elections.

Democrats are still afraid of appearing “soft on immigration;” generations of right-wing Overton shifting and feckless political consultants have left them terrified to take this head on.

They need to feel pressure from us.

ICE could carry out Trumps stated policy at a much lower cost if it didn't waste money on gratuitous cruelty. For instance, at airports, they often detain a person for days or weeks who has been refused entry, when the cheaper and kinder option is to put them on the first flight home.

@inthehands It's very hard to roll back funding for policing type agencies once it's in place.

I don’t know…the SS and SA were massive grifts too. I find little comfort in either corruption or incompetence as protection.

@inthehands Yes, aaaand no. It is pretty clear it will be massive grift. ICE struggles to run operations at this size right now. I can't imagine that going more smoothly later on.
It is beyond fucked up, but guaranteed success it isn't.
