@taylorlorenz There is also the problem of retaining people. @davidallengreen, a UK lawyer with solid takes on pretty much everything, just went on an extended fedi break because the purity police didn’t like him using substack and he got bored of the hassling. Lovely own goal reply guys, the only behaviour you changed was his posting on the fedi. This is a people issue not a tech issue, which I’m not quite sure how to get around. He’s not the only one either.
So Reform just took a £9 million donation from a cryptocurrency backer based in Thailand. Which of course will have no influence of the party’s priorities.
Why are donations of that size to political parties even legal?
@hzulla I’ve always thought it was a reference to Alien and just thought it was weird, but to call it Hugging Face after an emoji and not realise the Alien connection does not reflect well at all on the people running the company.
@kravietz@cstross Thank Putin and COVID for those problems, everything was affected, including nukes. Actual data says average cost overruns for nukes is 120%, for solar it is 5%. Solar deployments are increasing year on year, because they are so damn cheap. Eg. in the first nine months this year Pakistan, installed 17GW of solar, causing reductions in grid demand. Over the year, they will produce the equivalent of a 3.5GW nuke, trying building one of those in 9 years, let alone 9 months.
@cstross Silly question and I hope not too rude. Do you get paid a percentage of the selling price or a fixed amount per book sold? (I have the book paperback already)
@baldur@mawhrin My 15 year old read your toot over my shoulder and her reaction was “Well yeah.” with a shrug and an eyeroll like it was the most obvious thing ever that AI isn’t all that. Even teens can see through of the hype.
@HistoPol@mina@si_irini@Yeekasoose@mikako6@pmj Hey! Some of us (then) teenage SciFi nerds read and watched the same stuff, but reached entirely different conclusions! Not all of us thought they were blue prints to follow. The various Torment Nexii (Nexusus?) were dystopias.
