Waldenburg from the Hohenlohe plain. During my 100 km ride today I had stereotypical fall weather: quite strong wind, in the hills with gusts, rain and some sunshine, temperatures between 6 and 9 degrees C. Much slower than under better weather conditions, but in a few weeks today's weather will be what I'll call good weather. #cycling#fall#Germany#Hohenlohe
I own a miniature "netbook computer", the best selling type of computer from 2009 to 2011 (I believe) that's been unused for 8 years. Unlike the last generation of netbooks, with larger screens and normal sized keyboards, my Eee-PC 900A is a real 1st gen netbook: the keyboard is the right size for touch-typing toddlers and the 8GB flash is, like, small. It has a 32bit CPU; Bookworm is the final #Debian release supporting it. It now runs the latest Firefox ESR. Slow, but it works. #netbook
Nicandra physalodes, or apple-of-Peru (in German simply Giftbeere, "poison berry"), by the side of the road. This inflorescence is unusually late, which is almost certainly the result of mowing in summer.
I like the flowers of this plant; it's been more than four years since I last found one in the wild.
I count flowering plants as I spot them throughout the phenological seasons, trying to learn to identify new ones every year. This is a belated # 197.
@libreleah My kids learned basic colloquial Japanese that way, and English vocabulary through the subtitles. They practiced two languages at once, no teacher, no begging, no grades. I never had to worry about English grades anymore, and cursing in Japanese was a bonus.
Elecampane (Inula helenium) in the wild, spotted while #cycling in the hills. This herb has many interesting priorities, culinary uses and medical application. #nature#plantspotting#Germany
@nix I've been doing that for 20 years at home: exclusively FOSS software. A revelation was KiCad with FreeCad for electronics design: by learning to use it I could really acquire new skills. There is also FOSS and "Not-so-FOSS": I've moved from Ubuntu to Debian. Other than that I also produce or help produce some FOSS, both hobby and commercially. FOSS creates value to society.
Engineer, trying to kick the habit by doing humanities and science; doesn't really work but I like it. Not a specialist to "follow" for a single subject, but I might know how some things are connected. Very high Reading-to-TV ratio.
