I promised butterflies and this one is extraordinary. It is a Scarce Copper (Lycaena virgauriae). Medium sized and an astonishing dayglo tangerine. This is a male. The female looks much more fritillary.

This tiny Mint Moth is smaller than the nail on a little finger but it is quite flat in structure so although the depth of field with the new (to me) 90mm macro lens is dreadfully shallow (again f11) there is a clear focus line front to back and terrific detail around the head.

These are very popular in Spain, with good reason. 75km range and plug in anywhere. Dry, space for shopping, fits through small gaps.

Viper's bugloss (Echium vulgare).

A magnificent blue, shading to claret. Hugely popular with insects. It seeds where it feels like. Use gloves to handle. It is very prickly.

This Buff-tailed Bumblebee (Bombus terrestris) was climbing clumsily in the grass. I let it warm up on my hand for a while and then it launched.

Coffee grounds contain a growth retardant. Add it to compost to be broken down but don't add it fresh to plants.

Vine weevil grubs do a lot of damage to roots and are always a prime suspect.

They are moving very fast, visiting their favourite shrubby Teucrium flowers. Hairy-footed Flower Bee once more.
