Now that I write it out it's more obvious. You can just FOIL :P

My 10yo son said he noticed something odd about multiplication.
If you have some number C, then (C+1)*(C-1) is 1 less than C*C.
We started exploring and it worked with any C we tried.
We tried +/-2 and it was 4 less. He said he thought it was going by the square.
So we tried +/-3 and yep, it was 9 less.
C doesn't have to be an integer either.
It was a cool pattern he noticed and it was fun getting to explore math with him.
He surprised me a bit with that kind of an insight.

@mttaggart mmmm.... I'd like to see more creative sources, like l systems, wave function collapse, Wang tiles with exotic rules, markov chains, etc!
Less "we trained this on a bazillion things spending millions to do so and it might give an exact replica of work by an uncredited artist from the training data set".

Today I needed to be able to do git commands from c++ as library calls.
I found libgit2 and boy it fits the bills.
It was incredibly easy to compile and link to - on windows, in msvc.
    It was pleasantly surprising!
I'm trying to figure out how to do the things I need (like pull aka fetch then merge), but it's a nice library.

A few years ago I was in Germany and ordered a rum and coke. They made it with Pepsi. I still think about that to this day.

There are quite a few undesirable reasons for using linkedin as an actual social media platform, but one that particularly irks me is that while it is a good place to share industry related things (papers, blog posts, techniques etc), there are a lot of people trying to game the system and be perceived as being experts by sharing completely incorrect information confidently. It's gross, and destructive.

@glassbottommeg I've heard that apples in the wild are terrible in texture and flavor both, and that the apples in the stores are supremely bred for their better properties. Like we are eating tea cup poodles, not wolves.

@tedted I've had 2 incidents where I tried to point some of these things out to the authors of glaze. The first time, some cs professor involved started hurling personal insults at me, saw my bio and asked "how did someone like you get a job at nvidia?" and then he blocked me. Second time was not much better. It really would be nice if it could work, but as you point out, unfortunately it cannot!

@andrewhelmer47 The explanation is interesting too.
paraphrased "the least significant digits are said first, like "one and twenty" instead of "twenty one", so it's like Hammersley, but in base 10."
