A funny thought happened: How old is rock paper scissors? Then i thought, what would this same game look like to a Paleolithic hunter? Or if I time traveled and wanted to play a game with one could I teach it so it made sense?

I think rock. Rock is easy, rocks are rocks. Hand is next, replaces paper. Hand controls rock. Next is flint for scissors. Rock knaps flint, but flint cuts hand and hand controls rock.

#foss often feels like the software of Theseus, except the onboard shipwrite is a kid who has to do all the carpentry because no one else will help, so things keep falling off as we sail.

And I say that as someone constantly glueing bits of #inkscape back together after every release. The complexity begs for a hundred times the paid labour, but our economic proposition doesn't provide enough resource to staff things properly.

We have a fun Spirograph extension in Inkscape, written in python.

Can be really pretty. I should test the output with the shape builder....

It doesn't appear to be. It still requires sign-up / account creation for people who are looking for work.

But it looks close to the above.

It's my fondest wish that we find more uses for #fediverse and make inventive ways of using the ActivityPub protocol.

I've mentioned the event/calendar idea before. But I'd also like to see a jobs site, with tools specifically designed around that activity.

Big thanks to @davidrevoy for his kind blog post about my work and for all y'all help with this inkscape work this past year.

This took a *long* time to get to me. It was hanging out at MIT during Covid and finally someone mailed it to me this year as the lab was being closed up.

It was a fun project to work on, though I wasn't critical. Best I can say is; "I hope I helped" 😅 But I'm also chuffed to bits to have it.

You would need a functioning government to do that.

I've long considered the GPL to be makeshift law for a space ceded by traditional governments and volunteers to be make shift government infrastructure provision.

In the ideal, we'd have done all of this through a well functioning Democratic process; alas that is not the age we live in.

#foss doesn't just show you how the sausage is made, it recruits you into making them.

Everyone gets to work in the sausage factory, this is not a guided tour, this is participatory community and your help is critical to making thing happen. If you've ever stood around wondering why feature or bug didn't change in a decade, this is why.

(You might think that's unfair or too demanding, but better making sausages than *being* a proprietary sausage 😉)

One day @samuelpepys will post about the version of Linux his wife installed and the flaming row they had afterwards over supper.
