I remember that white person who tagged every high-following Black person they followed out of nowhere to say "I'm unfollowing you now bc talking about the oppression in the system is scary & makes me uncomfy". It's not just that white people don't know how to be uncomfortable, it's that part of white comfort requires TELLING nonwhite (especially Black) people they caused white discomfort (which in their minds is unacceptable). This type of violence is inherent to the concept of "white comfort."

@Homebrewandhacking @mekkaokereke White women are less likely to push back directly and more likely to block/report these threads, or talk about how "threatened" they feel, or to @ all the Black people they follow announcing that they are "disengaging" from learning about "stressful topics" for "their own mental health", the same way white women offline are more likely to use verbal violence before physical violence. Of course, in both environments, there will always be some doing both.

The next deadline S. faces is Aug. 14th, and the amount needed to reach this subgoal is now $115. The thing about (almost always but not exclusively) white fragility is that it's always new to YOU but it's never new to US*. And we know you don't consciously know there's a playbook, but it exists all the same because you always follow it step by unnecessary step.

Re: Last boost about Sierra Leone outlawing child marriage (good): If you're inclined to be weird and racist and xenophobic about that, please consider that the US does not have federal legislation prohibiting child marriage, and 39 states don't have laws against it either. In many of those states, married minors cannot initiate a divorce. The U.S. has not ratified the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) which sets a minimum age of 18 for marriage.

If people here really hate the very idea of reply-gating, maybe work on cultivating a reply culture that isn't fucking rancid.

Maybe think about the message that sends regarding WHICH people of Virginia you care about and what you think "the average Virginia voter" looks like.
